VT 1 however takes LOTS of hours to get good at and to get good gear for. You might not really master this game before VT 2 comes out. The decision is yours.
There's some obvious aspects where you might not have the same appreciation for the characters or entirely know who Lohner or Olesya are (the only real major characters besides the playable ones), but the intro and tutorial briefly goes over the basics of why the gang is where they are now.
It helps a bit that the story writing isn't incredibly great to begin with, which is a strangely huge contrast to the fact that the heroes are all colorfully interesting stereotypes with great interactions.
