Franz Lohner
He has SERIOUSLY bad name for Warhammer universe. Why is that? Well, this here tiny bit...

https://www.behindthename.com/name/francis

I know it's supposed to be a typical German name like Fritz, but...where's the France(Franz as in short of Franzoesischer aka Frenchman) in Warhammer exactly? And don't get smart. Brettonia is Brettonia, NOT NAMED FRANCE! Simply inspired by it.

Sorry, had to vent this ueber important issue. I'm sure you understand.

Karl Franz von Reikland would like to have a word with you.
Franz is a typical German name.

Ah yeah. That too.

MEANING! There is no FRANCE in Warhammer, meaning no possible way a name FRANZ could exist. No matter how cool. Would it really be bad if he was named Fritz Lohner? Or Karl Leopold or something.

I understand, but...

GAH!

Thats not entirely true, since the name is derivation of the old high german name frank, which mainly comes from the germanic tribe of the franks, who later formed the reich of the franken/Frankreich/France.

Fritz is such a wimpy name. If anything you want something boistrous with an O or a U.

Heinrich and Siegfried are badass german names.

Way to go to prove my point. :D

Where are Franks or Frankreich or France in Warhammer? NOT BRETTONIA!

Nah, it didnt prove your point, because the name has nothing to do with France, it has something to do with the germanic tribe of the franks. The name existed before France.

Since the empire in Warhammer is based on germany, the name fits quite well. Infact, there are even citys in the empire named after citys of germany, like Wuppertal.

Again...

Where is the Frankish tribe within Warhammer then? Umberogen, Ostagoths etc, but no Franks afaik.

No matter how you spin this, it doesn't make sense beyond "cool".

The whole german influence itself doesnt make sense with your logic, same with france influence in Bretonnia.

No, it most certainly does. What does not make sense is when you reference stuff from one world in another world. Example:

How would you react if I named a character in Middle Earth, say:

Karl of Middenheim

or in Game of Thrones:

Dorin Silveraxe

or in Star Wars:

Sinwe Mithrin

or in real world:

Bas'ton of Voss

You know. It doesn't make sense. I mean you can do whatever you want, but it doesn't mean it'll make sense.

Renamed Wotan(Odin), Tyr etc are more than fine. Even as far as Harry Potter went for alternate reality. But, again, it does not make sense to reference things from one universum in another where that thing does not exist. And DIRECTLY reference via things like Franz etc.

Franz is the German equivalent of Francis.

Even in times oof Roman empire there were no latins alive, yet still we have name "latin"

More than 1 thousand years left from moent last egyptian alive walked among living, yet we got egyptian names and countries.

And there are a lot of things like that going in REAL world, not in fictional universe, like warhammer. Some things are even looks like it had NO logic behinnd it at all, yet still they exist. So having name that does not represent any dedicated event or being in that universe seems really not that strange compared to real world.
Medicles Jan 25, 2018 @ 11:54am
Thats ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you know, because everything in warhammer references something from our world. With your logic, every german name cant be used, because they were eventually highly influenced by the romans. Especially Bretonnia shouldnt even exist without some sort of romans.
