- Reds are essentially unique oranges. They do as much damage as the oranges. Several of them however have traits you can't get on oranges though. Example: Red Dwarf hammer, red Kruber mace.
- You don't need reds. I run oranges on Cataclysm these days. Today I did "Wheat and Chaff" for the contracts with bots, using a Krubermace with Regrowth/Improved Guard/Devastating Blow. Kruber's red mace is considered an excellent weapon (iirc Killing Blow/Bloodlust/Swift Slaying) and I have it, but I prefer a defensive trait setup. Thus I use an orange and it works fine.
There is one weapon trait called "Off Balance". If you have this and you block a rat's attack, the rat will receive significantly more damage from other heroes (not from you) for a short period. It will not reflect damage. You can get Off Balance on oranges, no red required. Kruber's red mace & shield however has Improved Guard/Off Balance/Killing Blow, which is a trait combo you can't get on oranges. Again, I consider it not too useful, I prefer orange shields with healing.
