Elves in Warhammer are the same, just spiced up by general grittiness and grim of the setting. Sure, Dark Elves are all about hate and anger but eg Shadow Warriors are not much better.
Oh, and Wood Elves are savages.
To me it seems that elves from lord of the rings are different. I mean look at Galadriel & Arwen, they seem really graceful and altruistic. Its just the "wood" elves aka King Thranduil that seem cold.
Anyways, thanks. However, if Warhammer is such a grim and gritty world, then how does it make sense that Bardin is so hearty and lively in the game? Shouldnt he be much darker in his thoughts and expressions?
Dwarves in Warhammer have two faces. One is like Bardin: direct, laughing, burping, beer drinking, showing little respect to rank - or perhaps showin expressing respect in a specific drunk way.
But there'sa darker side to dwarves: grudge. Destructive need to get accounts right. Vendetta, blood feud, that stuff, even to total destruction. But also honour beyond samurai code causing worthy dwarves to seek death for some transgressions of nature hard to grasp by humans.
Again, not much different than how dwarves are presented in Hobbit, just in a darker or perhaps more excessive way.
hahaha
Well, it then sound like there are several faces to the elves, and sure perhaps Arwen & Galadriel are not representative of the elves, but in a way, atleast Galadriel, i think is an important face of the elves in the sense that she seems highly virtuous, so in a way she represents the "highest" development an elf can reach to....
Which makes me want to go back to the main point of this thread, why choose someone as angry, hateful, broody as kerillian? Following your line of thought, this isnt representative of the elves either. The only thing to me that seems "elfish" about her is her arrogance and (ridiculous) high standards. Her reactivity and emotional lashing out at things seems very far from "elfness".
Elves in Warhammer lore are almost gone. Only Wood elves remain, hidden for most of them. They were ruling the world with the dwarves but both ended up fighting in a great war known as The War of the Beard. Both Empires declined after this, as the green skins took advantage of it and High Elves decided to leave for an island.
They're still proud of there glorious past and history, but are no longer the great people they used to be (both elves and dwarves). Therefore elves see humains as young, spoiled little children trying to rule the world they once had under there command, as dwarves kept their alliance with humans. They remember grudge and promises, and will never forget that Sigmar's hammer was crafted and offered by their kin.
Kerrilian is arrogant because she knows all this, and most humans don't. When she speaks about gods, she speaks about those worshiped long before Ulrich and Sigmar (Urlich was the god Sigmar worshiped when he was alive).
Jackal said she could be a teenager at the eyes of her people, but she has withe hairs, wich could mean that's she's centuries old... She sure remains a mistery, as is her past. She's arrogant, and should be in order to stick to the lore.
When mayflys dream about eternal life, they turn into necromancy, or vampirism. Her kin IS immortal, and thus can not be understood by lumberfoots...
By example, Sienna can control one wind of magic, and one only. As every human wizards. Elven wizard can control and use all of them.
Still, if we listen carefully to speaches between her and the others, she sometimes recognize the power of Bardin, Sienna, and Kruber. She seem to hate Victor, though, but Wich Hunters are not loved. They're feared, and kind of like it this way. He's a hunter and a killer. Some of them burned villages. They're kind of Inquisition : "Burn them all, Sigmar will take care of the worthy !"
I also belive than some of her "mean" dialogues are actually jokes, hidden behind her arrogance...
The first war between Dwarves and Elves (before the split between dark/high/wood) started because Dwarves attacked by Elves (the faction that would become the Dark Elves).
When the dwarves sent diplomats to ask "What The ♥♥♥♥ Happened?", the elfs response was to shave the "filthy brutes" without hearing them.
TLDR: all elves are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (with some exceptions), dwarves can hold a grudge forever and will see it paid in blood.
the king of the elves at that time in famouns for being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so he's sort of cherry picking.
the wood elves are all arrogant though as they see themselves as the only elves living as the gods mean them to, and they had dwarfs because of the war of vengance.
The High Elves are pretentious ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but they're reasonable and trustworthy.
The Wood Elves are less snooty but more amoral. They lie and cheat when it suits them and are generally more capricious.
The Dark Elves are pretentious AND amoral.
elfs are NOT immortal, they can get a few thousends of years old, which is compared to humans making them look like mayflies in the eyes of an elf. They also don't die by age as in physically agign, most die because of boredome and losing the will to live. So they might be immortal IF one could keep up it's will to Live, but that didn't happen ever, so a few thousends of years is what some managed to stay alive.
don't foret the sea elves. They are just the Elf sailors, yet they are an own kind next to the other 4 ones as they are not high elves but basically form one nation with them.
Well, and that's surprisingly quite similar to how Tolkien described elves (with the obvious exception of Druchii). Sure, in the LotR they're wiser and kinder, but you still see glimpses of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they were back in Silmarils' times; and wood elves of Mirkwood are what they are. So, Warhammer took these traits and amplified them - like with almost everything.
