I usually do it the stealth way. Having full FC, walking from behind and entering blade mode.
Of course, you can also enter the blade mode in the heat of the battle. But first, you have to weaken 'em.

You have to cut the big white zone.

The arm is the red area, you have to cut between the elbow and the shoulder. Use it to practice free slashing (using the right stick instead of x/y) since if you don't use it you risk damaging the arm. Also, make sure the enemy is damaged enough if it's a more powerful enemy like the custom cyborgs or the hammerheads (they glow blue, luckily the left arm is usually the first thing to be damaged).

Don't use the mouse and keyboard. Using a 360 controller makes it hilariously easier. Try not to feel so rushed either. Time is slowed. Aim carefully. Just go for the arm don't chop em up.

yeah, hack off the arm at the elbow first, then go chopping at the body. It's real easy to destroy them. I also recommend the controller over the m/kb
