"Always online"?
This may just be me, but whenever I lauch the game while I'm connected to the internet, if my internet goes down (which is often because it's pretty bad) the game will just immediatly crash. I don't know if anyone else has had this happen, and I'm pretty sure it will be fixed soon either via patch or mod, but I'd like to know if this has happened to anyone else.

I just tried it myself, in case you lurkers aren't convinced. Started the game, pulled the internet plug, the game was shutdown by itself after a minute or two.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Konami! Things were looking so good, but then you decide to pull this crap...

wtf i bought this after looking at steam store and it did not say anything about always online.
If this is the case, then we should be entitled to a refund.

This will be annoying for me now as i know my isp drops connection from time to time, and as in my area i only got one isp to choose from this makes me even more mad to find out this when it was not mentioned on steam store.
Other wise i would have avoided it for now untill it got patched out.

A major Japanese game company completely borks a PC port, why that is simply inconceivable!
Hoping it's a bug, seems too awful to be deliberate. Do other 'Always Online' games crash to desktop when the connection drops? (I'd normally avoid them, so I don't know)

yeah this is definitly a bug or it would say that the game requires you to be online in the store page
Sorry about your luck guys, but thanks for the heads up. This is a no sale for me.

It appears to be more deliberate than a bug though, but again, would like a response from @Konami or @PG_jp.

Well, lets wait for the fix.

I refuse to believe this is "working as intended" issue.

because you can tell this was ever planned

just report it to platinum as they are the devs

Does seem like a bug (probably with their Steam integration) more than anything. But if they don't fix it and it's legit always online then that's pretty despicable.

Huh, I just tried to launch the game after disconnecting and you're right. Wanted to test myself to see if anybody was jumping to conclusions haha. Seems more like a glitch than something intended honestly. I don't think steam even *does* always online DRM haha. Although I was just in a thread like this that got shutdown by an admin :/
It could also have been censored by someone from Konami.

I posted in another thread with people having this issue that the game does not try to go out to the internet. If it did, my firewall would have prompted me. However, indeed, if you unplug your ethernet the game will close after a minute.

This is a problem with how the game interacts with the Steam platform, because the actual executable (METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE.exe) does not try to go online at all, ever.

If you try to launch the game when you aren't connected to the internet, it tries forever. If it was intentional, I'd imagine they'd have a more graceful way of dealing with it. It doesn't make since from a PR standpoint to simply ignore the fact that it is always online too and have all your customers find out after paying for it. I am 90% sure this is just a bug, but like everybody else, I'd really like to hear from the devs.

I wonder if the game is trying to check with Steam every minute or so for the purposes of cloud saves.

No. Normally you'd just get booted to the main menu.
