Draw the line of the cut with the mouse, but don't swipe to the other side in order to cut. Just left-click. Your sword swing SHOULD follow exactly on the line.
That said, using the infinite blade mode wig would definitely help. Also Ripper Mode.
But back to the mouse: A potential problem could be a lack of sensitivity? I don't know if you can change mouse sensitivity in the game options, but if you find it slow to adjust the swing, you might want to up that.
I dunno, some things I noticed from a quick playtest. Hope that helps.
after giving the fight a few more tries i realized that i was making this way more complicated than it actually is:

i thought you had to exactly align your cut with the red line, while in fact you only need to cut through all the red boxes, giving you way more leeway than i thought.
i'll probably fiddle around with it some more in ng+, thanks for your reply :)
Downside to this is that you wont get the repair packs from the cut blocks.
Target only two out of the four squares, it's enough
On Easy/Normal, maybe. One higher difficulties you need to be more accurate.
I'm nowhere close to Armstrong in my Revengeance playthrough since it'll take me hours to clear that cursed fight at the beggining of R-04. ;_;
