My problem was that i could run the game fine, and id ajusted the graphics setting in the game to my personal preference. But at some point i did a system restore and ever since then the game would crash after a split second of going to " play ".
Then after much annoyance i realised that when you system restore it sets your computer settings back to the date required, but the actual files on your computer do not change. So the graphics and saved settings in the " mgr - savedata " folder were conflicing with the game.
So i deleted the " mgr " folder ( not sure where it may be on your guys computers, mine didnt install to the steam folder with the rest of the settings ). And then the game loaded up fine and re-created the folder but now with the default settings and it ran fine again.
So as i say, this was my specific reason, but alot of people do obviously use system restore now and again so maybe its just one of thos " pc gaming problems " where you need to use experience as a means to solve.
Sorry if this doesnt help, but i thought id share in case it did. My solution was just deleting the " mgr " folder to force the game to load up to its default display mode.
Note: If you want full screen you'll have to select a file first to get to the options. I couldn't even override it with the properties input but it's in the graphics panel once you choose a slot.
Thanks, after the smoothest download ever and 40K+ positive reviews I was NOT excited at the prospect of returning this game (especially having caught an awesome sale!)
For me, it turned out that I just had to unplug my controller during startup and plug it back in when it all finished and the game booted
