Would you happen to still have the working files or know where I could get them? I'd like to make an edit of this myself, for a different controller.
The file is still up on pcgamingwiki and on my ancient Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/s/lv09j3xrhya1ihs/ds3_ui_pack.7z?dl=0
EDIT: Did a Google search and found the original page hosted somewhere else, added to the top post.
For editing, just search for MGRRTools, that will be able to unpack the .dtt files into .wtb and the .wtb files into extensionless dds textures. Just add .dds to each filename, edit, save and then remove the .dds extension and repack everything back together (dds into wtb, wtb into dtt). It should work, being a while since I messed with this, but it should be straight forward.
Should be pretty straight-forward to paint the Nintendo buttons over and within the boundaries of the DS3 buttons, then select everything and make a corresponding alpha channel.
When saving the DDS file, select DXT5 as the compression/format and you should be good to go.
EDIT2: Checking the files again, the ones on the dlc# folders are just duplicates, so no need to edit all of them, just edit once both ui_core dtt files and then copy them do dlc1, dlc2 and dlc3
EDIT3: Ok, I think I got the process down, using the the English version as an example, extracted to a temporary location, !not inside the Gamedata folder, IIRC, the game's executable does not like loose files in there, beyond the modded dtt files.
1 - In MGRRTools, select ".dtt unpack" and choose the source folder with the .dtt files, a dialog box will pop, confirm and then choose the same folder as destination
* It will result in a "ui_core" and "ui_core_us" folders being created, inside both you will find a "core.wtb" and "messcore.wtb" files
** The texture file you need to edit is inside a file named "core.wtb", this file is the same on both folders, so edit it once, then copy it over, then repack
2 - Move the "messcore.wtb" to a different folder as there's no need to unpack it (remember its location)
3 - In MGRRTools, select ".wtb unpack" and choose the ui_core folder as source, a dialog box will pop, confirm and then choose the same folder as destination
4 - Open the destination folder where the program extracted the textures
5 - Rename the 79C096FA file to 79C096FA.dds
6 - Edit the texture with the Nintendo button inputs as explained above
7 - Remove the .dds extension
8 - In MGRRTools, select ".wtb repack", select the folder with the textures as source and destination
9 - This results in a core.wtb modded file, copy it to the "ui_core_us" folder, replacing the unmodded one.
10 - Move back the messcore.wtb to "ui_core" folder
11 - In MGRRTools, select ".dtt repack", select the folder where the original .dtt files are located in the first popup box, select the destination folder where the modded .dtt files will be saved in the second popup box and in the third popup box, just choose the same folder as the first popup box
12 - Copy the modded .dtt files to:
Gamedata\ui
Gamedata\ui\dlc1
Gamedata\ui\dlc2
Gamedata\ui\dlc3
13 - Run the game and things should work.
My original post has a link to the files, hosted on dropbox. Should work as is.
For the sfried mod, no idea, I haven't had contact since my last post here, last year.
What are you having issues with?
EDIT: The workflow should be:
- Unzip my original mod
- Navigate to the "us/ui" folder
- ui_core.dtt and ui_core_us.dtt files are located here
- In MGRRTools, do a ".dtt unpack", selecting the "us/ui" folder
- This will unpack the .dtt files to "ui_core" and "ui_core_us" folders, both containing a "core.wtb" and "messcore.wtb"
- Move the "messcore.wtb" file from the "ui_core" folder to somewhere else, for example, the "us/ui" folder. Otherwise the next step will also unpack it, creating more files and it can become confusing
- In MGRRTools, do a ".wtb unpack" and select the "ui_core" folder both times the prompt appears
- Navigate to it and you should find the texture 79C096FA (no file extension). rename and add ".dds" to it
- Edit, save and remove the ".dds" extension
- In MGRRTools, do a ".wtb repack" and select the "ui_core" folder both times the prompt appears
- Copy the resulting core.wtb and overwrite the one on the "ui_core_us" folder
- Move the "messcore.wtb" back to the "ui_core" folder
- In MGRRTools, do a ".dtt repack", select the folder where the original .dtt files are located in the first popup box (should be the "ui" folder), select the destination folder where the modded .dtt files will be saved in the second popup box (example: D:\MyFinalModdedDTTFiles\) and in the third popup box, just choose the same folder as the first popup box (should be the "ui" folder)
Then it's a matter of copying the resulting dtt files over the games directory Gamedata paths listed on step #12.
The repack should look into the ui_core folder and update the wtb files with the loose textures you modify.
Last resort, if you can't sort it out, upload the texture files somewhere, i can try to repack it for you.
The version I'm using is also in Russian, don't think that influences anything.
Way back then it was PS CS2 and the Nvidia plugin IIRC, but now GIMP. It is totally fine, keep in mind the RGB layers are just fuzzy , blurry "blobs", the alpha channel is the one you need to edit first, since it will mask and reveal only the sharper details of each button.
It's simple to understand once you open the file in GIMP, go to the channels tab and toggle the Alpha channel off, it will go from white buttons on a transparent background to white blobs on a black background. While still on the Alpha channel layer, select all and copy and paste on a new normal layer and do your edits, then it's a matter of copying it back and overwrite the original Alpha channel.
Lucky for me I still have PS CS2. I just need to install the Nvidia plug-in.
