Other PC-friendly character action games?
So after sinking 30 hours into this ostensibly 8-hour game, I'm itching to get some more character action action. Any recommendations?

Currently I'm looking at the new LoK game as a quick fix. Seems a more and more tempting purchase given the budget nature, but I'm wondering if there's enough substance to keep me invested.

The DMC games available on Steam also look interesting, but they each have their own drawbacks that keep me from investing. DMC3 is a terrible port, or so people say; DMC4 is a good port while being generally considered the weakest of the three "proper" DMC games (that is to say, DMC 1/3/4); and DMC:DMC has middling opinions all around.

Other than that, I don't know of many other character action games available on Steam, or on PC in general. Any and all recs appreciated. Thanks!

DMC3 is awesome and probably the best in the genre (on PC at least) but not sure how it aged (to someone that never played it before i mean) so maybe you should watch some gameplay videos first. port is not great but its not like it crashes or anything, never had any game breaking issues with it
dmc4 is pretty good as well id definately tell you to get that one. the last DMC aint that bad either, people just hated it for the wrong reasons. sure its depth is not much compared to dmc3/4 but id say its better than MGR in that regard (story is a huge meh tho). i also loved vergils DLC more than the main game. the character just controls a lot better
killer is dead might be good as well but i didnt play that one yet. theres some low budget ones as well such as Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae http://store.steampowered.com/app/263620/ and a few others

All good points. I think I'll go with the relatively safe LoK for now, then, and get the DMCs if/when they're on sale or something. KiD and that Mitsurugi game look interesting; I'll take a look. Thanks, all.

The PC side of this genre is unfortunately slim when it comes to games of this type.

Legend of Korra is good for a budget action game of this genre. I'd say it's worth the $15, but don't expect too much.

I'd say DMC3 is the port wasn't so damn awful. Which is a shame, because it's the king of spectacle fighters. DMC4 is okay, though I don't know how the PC version, it's just too bad that the team making it had no idea why 3 was so good while attempting to repeat it. DmC: Devil May Cry is probably the best option for PC as far as Devil May Cry games go. Lots of fun in that one.

I guess you could try Ninja Blade, but I wouldn't recommend paying much for it. Glitches and technical issues of the game aside, the combat is just not that good and it's absolutely infested quick-time events. I mean, every damn chance it gets, you're doing a quick-time event.

You could throw $5 at Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death if you're up to a rather amusing God of War clone.

I just wish Platinum would port Bayonetta and Vanquish to PC.
I saw an LP of Marlow Briggs (Two Best Friends Play) and it looks amazingly creative and high quality considering its budget nature. Also tons of humor that suits me just fine. That said, I'm not big into those GoW-style games. Something about that playstyle just never really appealed to me. I wasn't aware it was only $5, though. Will definitely check out.

Wasn't Bayonetta somewhat poorly optimized for 360 and/or PS3? Or am I imagining that? A PC port could only do good things for the game, if they put the effort into optimizing it.

I would just like to mention not only that DMC4's port is best out there..but it's a defenitive version with many exclusive features for PC, with turbo mode, special modes, 120 fps, excellent graphics (goes for cut-scenes as well)

It runs super well and you can even change the controls of X360 controller (which is of course supported)

The PS3 port of the game was handled by a team at Sega rather than Platinum. Platinum expressed letting Sega handle the PS3 version instead of doing it themselves was their greatest regret about the game. PS3 version later got a patch that improved some things about it though. 360 version is said to be just fine though.

The DMC4 port is absolutely fantastic (probably the highest quality PC port I know of) and the gameplay is top notch, the pacing is bloody awful compared to the other DMC games though

DMC3 unfortunately is one of THE worst ported PC games ever and isn't worth playing on PC

The LoK game is made by the same guys that made MGR and the original DMC series (Platinum) though so it's a very safe bet if you need your crazy action game fix

Other than that I'd recommend the other Japanese action games that a few other have mentioned above me (anything with the words "doujin" and "action" are very good choices)

Oh also Croixleur Sigma, it doesn't have much of a story and is very arena based but it's definitely worth checking out

DMC 4 - Great game. It's REALLY good. I finished it multiple times on different difficulties.
Good port, Pretty graphics, Dante, Amazing fighting ( You can change style and weapons on the fly = So many possibilities for combos!), Good music.
I don't know where you heard it's the weakest from DMC trilogy. In my opinion first one is the worst (Still good as hell).
Yeah, buy it!

DMC 3 - Dammit. This port is one of the worst, I have EVER seen in my life! It is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ atrocious. Still, DMC3 is considered as the best DMC for a reason. I consider this game as a definition of character action game genre. Kinda like Doom for FPS games.

Buy 4 first and, if you like it - buy this one.
Also, you can play as Vergil. ( it's basically Jet Stream Sam but more badass)

Ninja Blade - Port kinda sucks, but it's bearable.
Gameplay is fun, nothing amazing, but you can pull off some stylish moves. Some bosses are really fun and I found the story pretty enjoyable. There are also a lot of QTEs, but the good ones. They are completely over the top and badass. It's rare when QTE is fun, but this game somehow manages it.

Go for it when on discount.

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae - This game is... pretty simple. It's an arena character action game, with only few different enemies, really simple combos, no story, mediocre graphics and bad music.
BUT, for some indescribable reason, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun. I don't know why. The whole fighting system is based on parrying and perfect counter (You basically can't win using something else. You NEED to counter enemies.)
This game teaches you, how to play defensively. It's actually a really good training before other games in this genre.

Definitely worth a look + It's often on discount. (I think)

Killer is Dead - Port is medicore. You can play it at 60FPS after changing some files.
This game is fun, but it's not amazing. The visual style is... different. Personally, I really like it. Story is... um ... It's Suda51 game.
Music is more than good.

Fighting is fun, but you can't really make combos (which kinda sucks).
Although it's still looks REALLY stylish, especially when you upgrade your sword. You can perfect dodge, which stops time and allow you to mash attack. Looks/feels really cool.
You also have a bionic arm that change into giant drill or laser.
There are also Gigolo missions - Give a present to sexy lady, look at her through X-ray glasses, and take her to bedroom to ... receive upgrades (lol).

I had fun with it. Despite some problems and things that I didn't like, it's worth a play.

I wonder nobody mentioned Darksiders yet. It's one of the best hack'n'slash games I've ever played. Just be sure to play the first part, the second has too many RPG elements imo.

i did enjoy darksiders a lot (the first one specifically) but im not sure it can be considered a character action game though. combat is pretty simple, slow paced, etc
feels more like a third person adventure game

Marlow Briggs, the hypest game you can get for 99 cents.
