Game crashes at startup; out of ideas [RESOLVED]
I've spent the last several days trying to get this game to work on my system. I've already looked around various websites and on threads here for solutions and have found none that were applicable or worked.

When I try to play MGR:R, I'm given a white screen followed by the error message: "METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE.exe has stopped working". On fullscreen I'm given a black screen for a second or two before defaulting back to a white screen with the same error message; of note is that when I disable desktop composition I'm given a black screen with the error message instead of the typical white screen. Other than that, nothing I do has had any effect on this.

Here are my specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M GPU (Dedicated)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 GPU (Integrated)
i7-4700MQ CPU
12 GB RAM

I'm at a loss right now and feel discouraged from buying other Konami/Platinum ports in the future if they're anything like this. I really wanted to play this insane game but this stupid issue is keeping me from doing so. I'll never understand why so many PC ports of high-profile console games wind up being so bad.

Anyhow, if anyone is willing to take a stab at diagnosing exactly what the problem is and posing a solution then it'd be greatly appreciated. I would be happy to answer any questions or provide more information en route to a solution.

[SOLUTION FOUND: Uninstall vjoy]

Are you trying to run add-on like sweetfx ? Are you sing the discrete card ( Nvidia ) or the integrated ( Intel ) ?
TheBaron Feb 8, 2015 @ 8:31am
No add-ons, and I'm using the NVIDIA card

Then try the intel so we can be sure it's not a GPU issue.

Same difference with the Intel card

Well, let's try anything you didn't. Did you try install the game elsewhere than to the C: Drive ?

No; it's in the same location as all of my other Steam games (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common). I was under the impression that MGR needed the C: Drive to function.

Nope, I've actually installed MGR on another partition of mine called G:/ ( for games ^^ ) and it works. You should try. Tell us the results.

Just finished downloading it to my external HDD. Same result.

have you tried to run it with other windows?
TheBaron Feb 8, 2015 @ 3:09pm
Do you mean other operating systems? I don't plan on downloading Windows 8 to test it. That sounds really impractical. I have however tried running it with and without Service Pack 1.

haven't seen that you tried to update Nvidia, maybe it will fix your problem.

I did.

Just to make sure, I tried running the game in every compatibility mode. None of them had any effect.
