How do you side step?

I got the upgrade for side stepping but have no idea how to do it. Is the golden flash (silmier to the red flash that means an attack is incomming and you can parry) a promt to side step? If so, what do I push to do so (I'm using a 360 pad)

not a controller user but, either look in the option for offensive defence move, or lock on a target and at the same time press a direction and the jump button in same time. these are the 2 ways to do it.

X+A if i remember correctly. If you press it with no direction you dodge backwards, and if you move left or right while doing it, well... you know, you move left or right.
