It's kind of obvious that you are referring to the second battle and not the first one, but I'll make it clear anyway: you can't win the first battle, it's a scripted loss.

Regarding his REAL battle: first of all, upgrade your weapon if you haven't yet (I suggest you using the normal HF Blade). Upgrade Raiden's battery and health, and grab some nanopastes (the medkits basically).

The fight itself isn't that hard once if you block correctly and dodge.
Just one attack of his can't be blocked, but sadly there's no way to predict it, and it's free damage, just bare it.
The attacks where he goes yellow can't be blocked either, you need to either move away or use the dodge (there's an ability you can buy called "Offensive Defence" which is basically like a dodge ability).

Around the level there are some crates that, if you break, they will contain nanopastes.
When he looses his sword, he will be invincible to every "acrobatic" attack (slide attack, jump attack etc...), here I highly suggest you to play carefully, because his "judo" attacks don't flash red when they are going to hit.
You can either pay attention and dodge when he throws you a kick, or just block.
A very ignorant way to deal with him while he is not using his weapon is attacking while running. It will deal very low damage, but still, it may confuse him.
One last thing: it should be on by default, but if it's not, use the lock-on on him. The camera will constantly follow his movements letting you see whatever he does.

Other than this, I don't know. I never found his battle hard.
Try playing again and let me know if there's something specific you can't do comrade.

My advice is to use Monsoon's unique weapon, the Sai (forgot it's name). With something like level 4 it does a decent amount of damage, while closing the gap between Raiden and Sam.

The rest is a matter of keep practicing the blocks and to raise the music volume. Damn, Sam's Main Theme sure kick ass.

I am also stuck on this fight but i have found some strategy's to beat him
1. Use offensive defense (z) it will allow you to deal damage without taking any yourself
2. Use repair nanopastes. its self explanatory, its just heals
3. parry a lot, also self explanatory

A day late, but if anyone has the same question, PARRY, PARRY & PARRY. And also NEVER combo attack, because he can suddenly whip out the Murasama, leaving you with no time to parry. Also very useful, since he has a non-parryable attack. Also, do NOT knock his blade. It just makes his attacks harder to dodge, and dodges pretty much everything even with Ninja Run.
TL;DR Parry, and don't combo.

He won't take anymore damage than that, you must wait for the final QTE to pop up (where you press [X] to clash swords) so you can beat him

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate Sam so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ much, the fight feels so unfair all the time, sometimes when I parry it doesnt even register so I still end up taking damage, been trying for 2 hours, this actually made me consider hacking my save file so that I would have enough nanopaste to survive.

Normally I wouldn't say such a thing but... Git gud.
If you're using a controller: Left stick + Square/X.
For PC, I'm not sure.

Hope you win against Sam soon!

Me too, brudda. It feels like fighting a max lvl character after just finishing the tutorial. The whole fight is annoying, with him being better at everything, with better techniques, damage, health, and movement. Without reason. I always hate when you are fighting something that doeasn't make your feel like you are in a duel. More an execution. It's more like a Dark Souls boss than anything. it sucks, fr.

very fun fight when the momentum is grinded to a halt in his second stage where he keeps running away and punishes you for trying combo and have fun but instead gotta sit and wait for parries. ♥♥♥♥ is so boring
