Any tips for playing as Sam?
I completed Raiden's story on Hard and it was relatively straightforward, but I'm struggling even on normal enemies as Sam on Hard, though I've skipped the majority of fights the elevator Gorilla's are a pain to kill (just after Metal Gear Ray MOD).

I'm even considering going down to Normal, though I considered the same with Raiden and picked up the combat relatively quick most of my fighting is just running away.

Sam's DLC on Normal is probably harder than the main game on Hard.
Anyway, Sam can deal a lot of damage if you utilize his abilities. You can taunt, which increases your damage, but enemies hit harder and chip through block. Also, Sam's block doesn't stay up as long, so you need to be more precise with it. That being said, Sam has a lot of charged attacks and with taunt active you can do ungodly amounts of damage to your enemies. Pretty sure you can one-shot hammer cyborgs with full charge (Y) + taunt.

You should play the DLC on normal, because it's hard enough for your first try.
As "Comedian" did say, the DLC on normal is harder than the main game on hard.

Thanks, I'll see if I can finish the level on Hard then swap to Normal for the rest.

Stop blocking and start dodging. Sam's blocking and parrying requires a much tighter timing. Even the Mastiffs are pretty easy if you can get a routine going.

As for the elevators, try EM Grenades, though I don't remember having too much trouble.

Sam is pretty easy once you mastered the taunt cancel. Taunted enemies die faster and limbs can be cut easier. You can take advantage of this when you try to get S ranks, because in most fights there are robots and human foes. If you just kill robots and cut human legs, so that they retreat from battle, you get the "no Kill" bonus. Taunt cancel is done by taunting (with dpad up) and as soon as you see the enemy glowing up, you switch to a different item. By the way items and weapons are very important to sam, since the taunt works with them too. That way you can kill Ray with 4 rockets!
