In Windows version you can also apply insane AA and AF. Especially the 16x AF will make the textures of MGR Windows version look a lot better than in PS3 and Xbox 360 versions (but that doesn't really matter since the action in MGR is so fast that most people probably wouldn't notice the difference).
You can also apply other tweaks onto it. So in general the Windows version will look better in comparison and you're able to see the difference (at least when the game world is not moving).
There are some but nothing that would break the game. Apparently the biggest issue people have is that if they try to run the game and their display uses (cheaper) TV-panel and is connected to their system using HDMI the game causes some AMD and nVidia display drivers send out a wrong HDMI EDID value making the display either black and causing the game to crash, or makes the game run in 25 FPS / 30 FPS (depending on if the display is PAL or NTSC) and thus unplayable since the MGR requires 60 FPS to function correctly.
But community has already come up with solutions to that issue. Another "issue" is that highest resolution MGR supports is 1080p. There's no support for 4K unless community produced hacks are used. MGR also only supports the exact same set of resolutions the Xbox 360 version supports. That means that there's only one kind of 16:10/8:5 resolution, few of the most common 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions, and most of the resolutions are 16:9.
While MGR has been very well optimized and you can complete the game on a system with low cost i5, low amount of RAM, and Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics adapter, it's recommended to have at least the specs that are listed at Steam Store page since the MGR's internal timer has been hardcoded to follow the framerate, and if your computer cannot upkeep the 50~60 FPS then the game will run in slow motion.
That can cause issues in the game like the clock tower at the beginning failing to load properly. The only major issue that was there was meant that if FPS was under 30 then the end boss's final QTE didn't work and game was unbeatable.
But developers already fixed that with a patch. And everything should work as intended as of now.
I have an hd 6950 2gb and an FX 8350 CPU. So I am not worried about performance. I do use HDMI but the resolutions and aspect ratios supported are one's I use. So again, no worries there.
I was mainly concerned because the rest of my metal gear collection is on PS3, and I am just picky enough to want every game in the series to be on the same system... but I think you have all pushed me to get it for PC and sell my ps3 copy.
Thanks
Ports are frustrating in this way...
surprisingly very good and they have shortcuts for moves that you will usually have to press two for controller. plus using blade mde with a mouse is pretty insane and fast.
Much better than those pointless, stupid "[insert stupid thing here], would [whatever] again 10/10."
Blade mode with mouse is fast but harder to set right angle IMO.
