How to block on keyboard + mouse

I saw people blocking the heaviest of attacks and when I try it, it doesn't work at all. Not even for half a second. And yes, I'm new into the game so someone explain it to me how people hold block for so long

when ever an enemy is about to attack it will flash red and during that time period of the attack, pressing w+m1 will make raiden go into a guard stance

To be more precise, you need to use WASD to "aim" your parry in the direction the attack is coming from. I.e. it's W only if the enemy is in front of Raiden.

And you can't be holding wasd preemptively. You have to press direction + light attack simultaneously, otherwise it will register as a ligh attack.

Honestly the game could've done a better job at teaching parries, personally understood how to use them like 1/3rd into the game

The parry command is pretty obvious and this is not the first game to have a defensive command that works like that. People are just lazy to read what appears on screen or simple don't pay attention to prompts at all. Just like that meme footage of a gamer journalist playing Cuphead.
