Armstrong has some moves that are better to be avoided with Offensive Defensive, rather than just trying to jump away.

It would probably be best to learn that stuff from videos than text I think.

If you have an un-upgraded sword then you'll be doing like .5 percent of his hp with every slice. A fully upgraded muramasa can bring him down to 150 in about 40 seconds with the right combo.

yea so funny story, i didnt know that things carry over from beating the game into new games, so i was overwrote that data and it was essentially a clean new game but on very hard. can confirm i did like .5 dmg per hit and as a little update i can say that i did beat him and it was quite the close fight. currently on revengeance difficulty but again i overwrote the data so i guess you could say im in a bit of trouble right now. if that isnt how it works then id love to know how to upgrade it, i dont know anything about this game i went into it blind.

and for anyone looking at this trying to beat armstrong as well, what i did was i only did light attacks at every chance, blocked all his blockable attacks and i ran behind him when he did the fire wall thing. the best way to get him lower though is to straight up just keep fighting him until you learn how to avoid everything. it took me plenty of hours over the course of a few days but if i can do it then you certainly could as well.
