What is the deal with Sam DLC Armstrong?
Playing on Very Hard. This guy is seriously on steroid.
Most of the time he just spam yellow grab and charge, sometimes even doing over 20 yellow attacks in a row. And his charge randomly change timing, like changing from going straight line to going in a circle with no pattern at all.

How do I beat him? He almost never stay put, using only yellow attack that force me to dodge forever.

Happens. You can attack him a few times before he does the yellow grab. He only does it 3 in a row, max

Yeah. Then he simply switch into the yellow charge attack, which sometimes go in circle, messing up all my timing.

Attack him while he charge sit up, then offensive defense to the side. Its annoying, but it works.

Thanks for the tips. I got him.

Still it is probably the least enjoyable boss fight for me.
Most of the time was spent dodging yellow ♥♥♥♥ which is just not fun.
I had enough dodging in Dark Souls already.
Also he do serval different moves after a leap (yellow grab/kick/punch) which I can only depend on luck to dodge or block. Sam blocking window is too short that you can't block that punch if u r looking for a kick. Quite BS in my book.

Well at that point Sam is just a human with good skills, makes sense Armstrong would be harder to deal with. Raiden has his full cyborg body. It´s already silly he can double jump (using what? Farts?)

but sam kicked raidens butt. he still could even after he went all out edgy

He had the cyborg arm by that time but yeah, even as a partial he was better than Raiden with his MGS 4 body. Thing is, maybe TOO good. He beat all the guards with assault rifles while having the legs and speed of a normal human. Then again using logic to analyze the over the top stuff that happens here is pointless :steamhappy:

try to aggro him with taunting when he is in his final phase, that will be crazy :)

After hours of retry, I finally manage to no-damage this guy and man the only thing I can say is DLC Armstrong is terrible as a Boss.
  • Switching attack mid-animation, I have seen him switch to grab attack mid-kick times and times again;
  • having 3 different attacks that require different timing after one single kneel down animation:(Instant-block: Got punch in the face,
    Delay-block: Got kick in the face and grabbed,
    Dodge to the side: Got punch in the face,
    Dodge backward: Got kick in the face and grabbed).
    It would have been fine if these attacks have their own start-up animation, but no Armstrong do whatever he wants;
  • and random furry charges that sometimes go in circle and hit me in the back before the camera even recover. I don't know if its intentional or what, but it seems he sometimes slide along the edge instead of instantly charging back, making it almost impossible to time the dodge.
All these BS, DLC Armstrong has them all.

The sucessful run did not feel like victory at all, more like I got lucky that Armstrong decide to go easy on me and do a few charge-up attacks in a row.

Yes I am saying DLC Armstrong is a LUCK BOSS, it depends on whether you are luckly enough to have Armstrong do the attack that match your dodge direction and give you the opportunity to do your own charge attack. My victory feel like nothing but luck.

' I'm hired? Nah I am going to resign right now. You'r ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane Armstrong. '

Personally I really liked the fight aside from the yellow dash spam. He seems tanky but if you use the taunt then he takes a lot of damage. The key to the fight is to use the dodge and get many hits in when he is charging.

Yeah despite the fight's objectively poor design it's still somehow pretty fun. You're right though, going for no damage against Armstrong is when all of those design flaws really start to show. I'd love to see someone consistently beat Armstrong with no damage because as far as I'm concerned it just isn't possible due to how random his AI is with his attacks.

If someone is still wondering how to make Armstrong fight easier:
1. Don't block his attacks, dodge (evade) only
2. Taunt him
3. Do damage while he is preparing to grab you
4. Do a ton of damage while he is charging his "ground cracking" attack. Charge heavy attack and if he is taunted - it will deal damage him around 20% of his total health

Most challenging part for me was to timing dodge for his ramming attack.
Good luck!
