Not really. Notice the 'R' in MGS ? Yeah it's called Rising and not Solid for a reason. Also, Kojima is a Supervising Director in this so he did see this project to light. The answer above is correct, it does take place after MGS 4 but it's not part of the main MGS story.

Not being "part of the main MGS story" just makes MGR a spin-off. It is still canon: It's OFFICIALY recognized by the creators it's in the MGS universe following a different character.

Correction: It is a part of the main Metal Gear story, but not a part of the main game series since its a spinoff. Yes, it is canon.

It's not canon. Never was canon. People mistake it for Metal Gear Solid: Rising (which was cancelled). There is a mission in GZ that has you erase all canon games. It's not on the timeline and it's not one of the titles that disappears. It's a good noncanon spinoff.

The original Metal Gear games don't have "solid" in the title either. The game is canon.
