So, uh... How do you aim the blade mode with mouse?...
Fighting Armstrong atm, really need that skill but i can't because the mouse has the weirdest controls when it comes to blade aim.
Its incredibly frusturating. Is there like some other way to do this? Arrow keys?

During the whole game i never could figure out on exactly what logic does the aim of the blade mode follows...

Only in the Armstrong fight i had to legit try to understand it.
What ones' intuition would desire is that to just rotate the thing with mouse, you move left - the whole thing just rotates left, etc.
But apparently the aim follows some invisible mouse pointer with one of its' sides, however you can never guess where that point is relative to the current line of aim.

I managed to defeat Armstrong throwables only like 2-3 times (and never managed to counter-hit the Armstrong iteslf at the end), i failed every other because i just couldnt line up the aim in time OR the aim would desync with mouse pointer's current position and it would try to rotate insanely fast causing the thing automatically fail (yay).

That part of the fight was REALLY annoying.
Surprisingly i managed to win without it. Took the throws right in the face, eaten some medkits (all of them, precisely) and somehow managed to make it without deflecting Armstrong's mega-throws.

The fight was amazing otherwise, but that gimmick part was VERY annoying just because the mechanics are not very cooperatite which combined with time-limit and precision required - its just urhg.

I dont know how exactly it works (i guess i can just do it but cant describe it) but Id say is moving the mouse up and down moves your aim up and down, left and right rotates it and AD moves your char

Unfortunately it wasn't working for me like that. I had issues with rotating it the way i want through the whole game.

Well, the only times i would run into this issue would be cutting left arms.
But this line-up gimmick is a whole new level.

Aim the slice like you were drawing a circle, don't worry about not being able to see the painter, you can tell where it is by how fast you can change the direction and by Raiden's stance.
Rotate Raiden with <Left> and <Right>
Move your aim up and down with the <Poop pants> and <Garble Tunafish> buttons
Move with Movement buttons + Ninja Run

WASD moves the actual aim

movng the mouse rotates the aim

Yes.
The latter part is what causing issues because its extremely confusing to actually do it since i can never nail as to how the thing corresponds to my hand's movements.
Like i can do it, somewhat, but not fast or gracious enough to match what the game asks of me during final boss.

i could never do it and just dodged the bricks

I've been trying this ever since it went on sale and I got it last year, and there's honestly no way I think I'll ever be able to finish the game without smashing at least the first set of debris.

I seriously think the whole thing with Gamepads and computers is a bit overdone these days because using the way back machine, I used to use a Force Feedback Pro & Pro II for flight games and simulators while everything else was just mouse and keyboard. To boot, I have never owned a game system in my life; nor do I intend to in the future. It was also super easy to write your own macros and customize the controls exactly the way that felt right too, but those kinds of options have now gone by the wayside in a lot of games because of the industry's obsession with Gamepads that are in all honesty, really not that fun from my own perspective.

For those that may be curious, the Pro II is still compatible with Windows 10 too, but the hardware addresses of 0x0207 & 0x0208 (if memory serves) required for a Standard Gameport (still the best there is for computers because it's true analog while USB is actually "analog emulation" because information transmitted over USB is in fact Digital ONLY) ...are actually locked down by newer versions of Windows starting with 8, so even if someone made their own Gameport Card for PCIX-x2/x4 it wouldn't work, and that means no original Force Feedback Pro (the best one of the two ironically).

To that end; I think the developers of the PC version of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance should have ...( Yup, this one goes out to Platinum Games )... left out the whole debris cutting portion of the Armstrong boss fight for the PC version by simply leaving it as "Blade Mode Debris" that has ONLY the need to both engage "Blade Mode" followed by hitting the button for a light attack as all of the other "Blade Mode Debris" in the game was handled.

This is otherwise a fantastic game, and I just chip at it... Yes, this is a pun, but when I wrote the post, it was more of a Freudian slip than intentional. Happy Bad Pun Day! :D ...once in a while just to see if I can figure out those quirky controls for the health packs from the debris in the Armstrong Battle. *sigh*

You dont need to cut the debris, and if you just play a bit more no damage-ing armstrong is really easy

I guess easy is a matter of perspective because it's clear after the first two battles with Armstrong that are preceded by defeating the Metal Gear, that basically you're items are for the most part, supposed to be liquidated by the time you reach Armstrong.

The problem is, I have no Repair Packs left, and of course, destroying the debris is "supposed to" be the way to restock repair packs.

My record on Normal mode is 91.3% health for Armstrong, but there's absolutely no way I can finish this game without at least 4 repair packs.

I'm playing on Normal Mode, and dread to think of what it will be like on Hard, but at least after this, I'll probably have 90% of the unlocks, so it should be a little easier.

I'm a bit of a completionist as well, so going with the flow the game itself has established is pretty much how I want to get this done.

There's absolutely ZERO way, I will beat Armstrong at this rate. I've been trying on and off for a long time. In short, damaging Armstrong isn't a problem, but lasting long enough to finish him off is NEVER going to happen without repair packs.

Also, I don't think this game is easy at all, but oddly similar to the final boss in Quantum Break, Armstrong is insanely difficult by comparison to those in the rest of MGRR.

Idk dude, if you cant beat armstrong on normal, I think its just your fault. Were you buying upgrades? Is your sword upgraded, are you using offensive defense?
TheCrusherOnSTO Aug 28, 2018 @ 7:38am
Oh yeah, Weapons, Life and Energy, all up to fullest. Also, skills too. I played the original in 1985 before it was an NES title, the one that most gamers are familiar with, so I'm no stranger to checking all the items' options. The original was on some QBasic type computer, had a 5.25" floppy drive, even took cartridges, but can't remember what it was called for the life of me. I've got it in my attic somewhere too, but it was intended as a computer on par with the Commodore 64.

I missed a couple of VR missions, and some aspects, maybe guards having conversations or something, that unlock some of the collectibles, and I missed at least two of the boxed soldiers, but have gotten at least three of them since Level 04.

Also, just a little FYI, "dudette" would be a better fit than "dude." Remember Michaelangelo in TMNT (1984) ? ; ...always called April O'Niel "dudette."

...and yes, I'm the first to admit, it's probably just a combination of my style of playing, and MGRR being literally the fastest moving game I have ever played; however there are plenty of other players on the Steam Forums and others like GameFAQ's, Reddit, and more that find the Armstrong Battle incredibly difficult on Normal mode starting out without any Repair Packs, so I'm by no means alone in the universe; meaning, "Nope, it's not just me." ;)

Overall, I think the challenge is actually very balanced; exception to what I think was a "Play Control" oversight though for the PC version; whereas they really should've kept the debris in the Armstrong batlle more or less the same as debris from earlier stages in the game; especially considering there are so many control options for PC users (less than there used to be, but still a lot) that all work a little differently than could possibly be considered by any developer, so it really just would've made sense to leave this whole "cut this debris at this angle" out of the PC version of the game.

The irony of the whole "Play Control" issue to me, is that the controls for every other aspect of the game are extremely responsive, it's just that one debris segment from the Armstrong Battle that's wonkier than Willy Wonka.

I think you jsut need to get used to it. I dont have problem with the debris at all, using KBM.
TheCrusherOnSTO Aug 28, 2018 @ 7:52am
Can you describe exactly what you're doing with the KB & Mouse to make it work? If it helps, I've seen some other recommendations for control sets, but I'm pretty happy with the settings I'm using because I'm using an ergonomic keyboard with the left & right sets of keys angled. The 2nd Mouse Button is Run, The "G" key is Blade Mode, The "F" key is Heavy Attack, and the 1st Mouse Button is Simple Strike the way I've got it set up. Oh, and "Z" is... well, it matches the first letter of the name... LOL (Just realized this). ;)

Oh, and do you have more than one monitor? I'm wondering if the fact that I use three monitors affects it, but I'm running the game Full Screen, so I don't see why it should, but I'm open to ideas.
