Tower Defense Games for kids
A little background: I had been enjoying several days of gaming and getting new cards, at least until my four year old discovered the glory of Tower Defense Games. I let him watch me for a bit and then he wanted to try the game himself. He was enjoying playing the easy level over and over. Then when I was away from the computer he started he game himself and started using the forge, he destroyed some of my good cards, which was a bummer.

Which brings me to my question. Are there any decent tower defense games out there for kids that he might enjoy, that are not violent in nature? I am not that familiar with them until this game and he obviously enjoys the strategic concepts. We have an Ipad as well if there are better ones available there. Thanks.

Kingdom Rush for the ipad. I've heard very good things about it.

Try cubemen 1 and 2, and Go Home Dinosaur, they are all very kids friendly and easy to pick up and play. Go Home Dinosaur in particular I think is designed for kids in mind.

If you don't mind some cartoon violence, Plant vs. Zombie is great.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm downloading a few of them now. Hopefully they will act as a good deterent from deleting my cards in the future. Sometimes life provides its own strategy games.

Haha - I thought from the title that you were calling PWD a td game for kids! I'd second Go Home Dinosaurs. Quite a bit of content and can be quite challenging towards the end. Nice presentation and child-friendly throughout.

Go Home Dinosaur! is a great game that kids will enjoy for the cartooney graphics and non-violent aspect. There is even a "veggie mode" you can unlock so the steaks (lives) you are defending become carrots. Despite all the kiddy graphics and theme, it can get be very challenging, especially if you want 3 steaks/carrots on each level.

The very first TD game I played was called Master of Defense and it's still available out there. My niece saw me playing it years ago and got hooked on TD games because of it. I don't believe it was very violent, either. It's a good TD game for kids because it's not super-complex but covers all the key elements with some decent upgrade choices, etc.

Plants VS Zombie and Go Home Dinosaurs are the two that spring to mind for some fun Tower Defense games!

I'd say Plants vs Zombies is an obvious starter for a kid. My son loved it several years ago (he was 7 at that time).

There was also game called Garden Defense or something: not as good as PvZ, but easier and with no violence at all.

Ah yes, how could I forget to mention PvZ?!

Go Home Dinosaurs! Which I'm also having a lot of fun with and I'm a middle-aged male. Your best bet is to track down the game's Save files (most often under My Documents) and copy your saved game files into a seperate folder. Pull yours out when you're playing and then put his back when you're not.

Thanks much to all of you who sent suggestions. Since so many of you suggested Go Home Dinosaurs I went with it first. My son was not disappointed, he still wants to play this game of course, but GHD has a lot of the same elements and it seems more appropriate for his age. A few of the levels have been difficult for him, altthough unlike myself he seems to enjoy playing the same one 20+ times until he wins it.

Anyway, thanks again everyone, now I'm going to go try and recollect my rare cards he lost.
