Poker Night 2

Poker Night 2

The game DOESN'T cheat
I've just spent some time reading through examples people of posted of how the game is clearly weighted in the NPC's favour. The apparent problem is that most people don't fully understand probability.

Firstly, let me just explain how the game works: Just like the first Poker Night, there is a virtual deck that is shuffled between games. The cards the other players look at are actually their cards (i.e. if you could zoom around the game and see their cards when they lift them up, you would see the actual cards).

Because of how the game is programmed (with a virtual deck) it's impossible to weight what card is drawn at a given time. It's just the card that's on top. Period.

Now to explain a little about probability. Many people seem to be complaining that they were 90% sure of winning, while their opponent only had a 10% chance, but they still lost anyway. Despite what you may think, a 10% chance of winning not all that low. It actually means there's a 1 in 10 chance that the next card taken out of the deck will make your opponent the winner. Not exactly rare.

If you have a 80% chance of winning, it's still 1 in 5 that you're going to lose. So it's not really that unlikely at all, when you think about it. Even a 95% chance of winning will result in 1 in 20 chance that you'll lose.

If you've had this happen to you several times in a row, and you think that's also unlikely, think again. Because the game uses a virtual deck, every new game resets you chances of winning to what they were before.

To put it a simpler way: Just because you didn't win the lottery last week doesn't mean your chances of winning are going to be increased this week. They're exactly what they were before.

I hope this helps people understand why they may think the game is cheating, and why, in reality, it's not.

The game is just supposed to be a tongue in cheek card game with some
humor and some items for your other games, people complaining
about the poker mechanix should have got something else, but
the characters do have styles in my opinion and are very very very
easy to beat.
Sam plays conservatively, if hes betting he probably has something, might not be much
all the time but he has something.
Ash bets on everything and you can sometimes re raise him to fold or he will call
with nothing usually, sometimes he has something, a broke clock is right twice a day
Claptrap plays mostly good hands, kind of like sam but a little looser
Brock plays a bit like ash but a little tighter, so on the extreme ends
you have Ash, betting a lot, playing loose
Sam playing tight, not betting much
and brock and claptrap in between
Easy if you know how to play cards to beat them

well if i have a objection to make is when everone have the same suit same number and bot have one card that make them win at very moment to delay the player of game play and i dont remind you a situation i dont know if is common of have everone having a 4 of kind or 3 of kind of full house and there is like 20 exactly the same card of example 20 card of "A" but bots gona have a king kicker or whatever higher than your card to bring you down and makes you to stay in the game abit long times biside there is a problem of allway have the almost the same card for everone at start and just at very end it change. bots are not cheating is the game just lame.

I just played a few games and the second one had a moment where my opponent was 99% sure to win, and I was 1% -- and the cards drew in my favour! I did an involuntary "Steve Holt" pose I was so happy. The NPC was VERY annoyed! :)

The first game I played I won. Beat out Brock in the first hand actually. This game definitely doesn't cheat.

What? I have literally no idea what you're trying to say.

This game failed to recognize a Full House twice for me, as well as a Straight. All of this was in Omaha, seems fine in Texas. Rigged decks are one thing, I can take that, but not recognizing cards on the screen is killing me.

In omaha you HAVE to use 2 of your cards, some people dont understand this
if you have 7 3 2 8 in your hand and the 5 cards out are
7 7 4 4 K You do not have a full house, you have to use your 7 And another card
to make your 5 cards, I.E. 7 3 7 7 4 or 7 2 7 7 K
the best hand you have there is 3 of a kind no matter What card you pick
to go with your 7 you only have 3 of a kind
A lot of people dont know how Omaha works, its not quite like hold em
( where you can only use one of your cards, or none of them if you choose)

Ah. Well that makes a lot more sense. I guess I should have read those instructions. Thanks DK.

how about this? blah blah blah blah game cheating because everone have almost the same cards given in diffrent order everound. and at it set the victory to AI or The Player at very last moments. still dont see what i am trying to say? ok go play the game and look the card AI have and you will find most card they have with same suit/number in your hand and is for everAI ever round.
Leded May 7, 2013 @ 2:58am
i dont think it's cheating persay... but all i know is that so far i have won 1 game... and lost 10.
Dandyslayer! May 7, 2013 @ 3:44am
I can't believe people are seriously saying the game cheats. Its freaking POKER!!!!! I wonder if these same people play with their friends or at a casino and do the same thing?
Ofcourse the game doesnt cheat. Its just what kids say when they lose and cant admit they are horrible.
