Pale Perry the Goatman
There is a new pet in the shop, he's a little goatman with white fur. The goat costs 2,500 Platinum (about 25.00 USD). He looks cool enough, but why does he have to be named Pale Perry? Diablo IV is an Action Role-Playing Game, but it's a little light on the "Role Playing." If I'm going to drop $25 on an in-game pet, it would be nice to name him myself, and perhaps even select from a few different fur colors. $25 is steep for a character that has no gameplay changes, no customization at all, etc.

If you walk up to a stray dog and use the "hello" emote, your character will pet the stray dog. I don't know if there are any emotes you can do with Pale Perry, but the more interaction the better. The more opportunity for RP, the better.

I have to admit this is one of the weirder complaints about the price of dlc that i've read.

weird they will sell pale perry but wont do cowruns
Could be worse. Try buying panties for the buff in Black Desert. I went from being a perv to p2w in a nanosecond.

The price, while steep, is not the issue I'm having with it. It's that the player has no input on the pet. The pet would perhaps be worth its fee if it could help play a part in my character's role play experience by being customizable.

It's like, imagine playing Dungeons & Dragons, but the dungeon master tells you what your pet looks like and what its name is. That takes away some of the fun, rather than adding to the lore of your unique character.

It's not about the price, it's about the rigidness of the content and lack of creativity allowed by the player. A pet should be a reflection of the owner. By selling pets that are already named, there's no opportunity for the player to make the pet a reflection of their character.

The first book in A Song of Ice & Fire understands this. The Stark children all get direwolf pups that are reflections of themselves.

ARPGs have never been about deep Role Play mechanics. An ARPG pet is nothing more than a Roomba.

It would be as odd as asking for romance options.

I mean, for most people RP isn't really something they're into, but if you can find enough people to support that as a suggestion I'm sure they'd add it to a queue for an update.

Submit it as a suggestion. The worst they can say is nothing.

D3/D4 pets collect gold and most materials -.-, even PoE west version doesn't get that, but chinese do get one.

Is the dog the only pet you can get for free? I want a cat, or pretty much anything else but I don't want to pay $25
Renaming gear would be a first step on the path to renaming a pet and a welcome option for RPer's as well as 'more-meaningful-to-me' description fanciers.

The bird is free if you complete the season.
This is a weird complaint, I believe all the pets have their own name. Honestly I'd wait for a sale too much in my opinnion for a pet that just follows you around and picks up gold and materials.

Not a complaint, merely a discussion. Yes, all the pets have their own name, which takes away a role-playing element from the player. My point is that naming pets (as well as customizing them to some extent) would be a nice feature for the player to have. I'm not really focusing on the price in this moment; I only mention the price so as to express that it's worth discussing the in-game value of a character that we're exchanging real-world currency for.
