An error occurred while updating EU:R - GE (error unknown)
I get this error when I try to start the game. Looked around for a solution, but couldn't find anything, at least not anything that helped

Someone knows how to fix this?

Also posted this on the EU:R Vae Victis forum

Basically the Vae Victis is expansion for EU Rome. I would hide the Vae Victis from the game library if i were you in case you wouldn't get confused. Use only the Gold version since it's the vanilla game with the expansion already applied to it.

Anyway. When did this error occured? Did you try to apply the latest beta patch to it? Or did Steam try to update it?

@Macenn thanks for your reply

As soon as I try start the game, a message pops up with that says "An error occurred while updating Europa Universalis: Rome - Gold Edition (Unknown Error)" I think the error message is generated by steam. That is really all that happens. I deleted Vae Victis but that didn't chance anything.

I assume steam did try to update something yes. I'll look into this beat patch you mentioned.

Right click on the Rome Gold and verify game files for starters. We'll go from there. Let me know if that helps.

Because i'm not sure but i don't think the beta patch would help you if you can't even get the game running.

I would also mention that Paradof has itsown forums paradoxplaza or something like that. I don't know how active Rome forum is at the moment but that would also be the best place to get help or find answers. I think.

Verifying game files didn't do anything, but I foung the Paradoxplaza forums. I'm afraid that the problem stems from steam though, but you never know if someone encountered it before.

If you log in to paradoxplaza then the link will open:

There you get the beta patch. Try to apply that.
Also, what specifications your harware has and what operating system does it run?

There you get the beta patch. Try to apply that.

You know, that seems to have solved the problem. Which is weird considering the nature of the error, but I know when to count my blessings.

Thank you for your assistance, Maccenn

Super happy to hear that. :D

And now I just have to watch 10 hours of let's plays to even understand what's going on.

I was about to recommend you to play EU III first but you have played CK II already and that's way more complex than Rome. There are some tricks and stuff you have to take care but it's not as complec as CK II. CK II was actually built on Rome, so it's way easyer.

Well, I'm not particularly good at CK II, but I got the basics down, yes. But Paradox games are generally all pretty complex things.
