I think it will be same size or bigger. Honestly, it makes sense because GTA5 has planes, trains, boats, and cars. Mad Max just has cars and it's desert setting would enable Mad Max to be much larger very easily. Who knows how far out the soft borders expand *not that anyone will ever find out cuz they'll die from sandstorms and getting blown up*
I'm not sure which was bigger... Just Cause 2 or GTA5 but Just Cause 2 felt far larger to me while GTA5 paid exquisite attention to detail.
Point being? Is was a huge game map that lacked detail of games like GTA5 but felt more alive in other ways because you could walk in any placeand destroy anything that looked destroyable. Not only that but if you blow up a bridge, it affects the storyline -you dont have to blow up or destroy anything in the game but if you do ymit will affect your rep and the game. Which made it one of my favorite open world games. And the mauraders but reminded me of Mad Max :p
I felt like Watch Dogs map was small BUT the ability to hack into the environment makes it always fresh to enjoy, besides that the story writing is done greatly and it's much longer game than GTA5 or Just Cause 2.
I think the most believable open world right now is Witcher 3 which dwarfs Skyrim and GTA5. The ecosystem is on point, people live lives like Skyrim so wirk during day and home at night but the locale is just a massive place.
GTA5 is nice cuz it offers unprecedented freedom, it digitized California pretty well but being that I used to live there it's a little off in areas.
Watch Dogs was small but te-created Chicago much better than GTA5 did Santa Monica and Hollywood. Watch Dogs literally did landmarks and streets. The map is like looking on Googke earth lol Well close enough.
Witcher 3 is the most detailed world I've played as of now andthe biggesr, probably til Fallout 4 anyways.
Red Faction:Guerilla and Just Cause are the most funnest and satisfying games I've ever played.
Dude Just Cause 2 is 400 square miles. GTA 5 is a little less than 50 square miles (which is still huge) Just Cause 2 is like 8 times the size of GTA 5. But I wouldn't see why they would go with such a map size for Mad Max because Just Cause 2 was huge but very empty there were miles and miles and miles of just negative space with nothing to do. I don really like that in games. If they manage to make Mad Max 400 square miles or larger and fill it with tons of stuff to do I am fine with it but if they just make it big for the heck of it and there isn't much to do I wouldn't see the point.
