The important part - it works this way.
1 main tip: the game is designed to be played in any order, but if you want to do 100% challenges and achievements it's better to strive to complete main storyline first and then finish up territories. Also this way game won't be ♥♥♥♥♥ easy because of overpowered Max. I did the opposite, i regret that.
I've given it a couple hours now, and I agree. It's really not so much filled with "bad design" choices as it is made for consoles, I think. Can't put a name to it, but there's a general difference between games made for console and ported to PC, than games made for PC. Things tend to be much less precise, and I think that's what was bothering me.
As much as I hate to, I plugged in an Xbox control to my PC and the game is quite playable now. Oh well, with games that feature a lot of driving, an analog stick is vastly superior to keyboard and mouse. Every other catergory, keyboard / mouse wins hands down, but I guess there's nothing stopping me from switching back and forth on the fly either.
I'm enjoying the game's atmosphere a lot, and the characters are interesting. They really paint a picture of a bleak world. A fascinating one, though. I'll likely finish this game..! I guess I just had to spend a couple hours with it and get past that awkward phase...
Overall game does not feel consolish much and optimization is really good.
Compare it to Berserk for example or any Bandai game, it does not even have mouse controls and you have to move camera by another 4 keys! And you can't even check keyboard controls if not in main menu, not in battle.
> They really paint a picture of a bleak world.
Well, except they didn't implement survival features so even mid-game is pretty abundant. Especially if you build stronghold projects and use fast-travel and other casual features that game is filled with. But at least you can avoid using them.
More difficult to find water / gas / food would be good for this game. Artistically speaking, though, they did an awesome job making such a bleak, hopeless, and mysterious world. I'm really diggin it.
Yeah this is true, gas cans respawn at cleared loot areas.
Well, in Sheltered(highly survival-tense game on high difficulties) items do respawn too in cleared areas, it's justified that people constantly migrate, find some stuff, unload it somewhere, live there temporary, can't take everything they've scavenged or get killed while scavenging leaving treasures. It's fine but could make more likely to run out of gas and having more dire consequences of that.
Seriously, the most annoying thing is when a game is designed for joypad. Mash x to survive and such. They purposefully try to make you break your keyboard.
Might want to rephrase that one. XĐ
Imagine being stuck at the first step of the tutorial.
