The first one, the "Jack" has to be done as it's one of the objectives for advancing the story missions.
Pretty certain that's only the case to show you what they are and how to use the design archetypes to track what you need for the build though, as I can't see it forcing you to build them all.

Archangels use magnum opus upgrade combinations anyway. So that upgrade is the same price for magnum opus. Since there is no ''fully upgraded'' state of magnum opus, no it can't be superior. Parts like armor for the car lower your speed and stability so you need to choose what you wanna be.
The only thing I've found that require specific Archangel builds are certain Death Runs. Every part you own can be switched out at any time though, so once you've bought the parts you can swap between one archangel setup and another at no cost from the look, or back to whatever custom build you had.
In fact the races that use those even prompt you at the end to choose whether to keep the archangel build or revert your car to the spec you had before entering.
