That will show you where some short cuts are. Some short cuts have insta-repair so you can keep going longer.
Treat it like a boss fight. Get a shot or two in, dodge, catch up, repeat.
It took me a good while to get the hang of it. Don't worry though, for me it's the most difficult main mission in the game so just take your time with it and learn the patterns and routes.
one trick is to fire a thunderpoon exactly as the race begins, just before you nitro-accelerate. Then just try to stay on his ass...don't pay too much attention to the other vehicles coming in...focus on staying on him...avoid the mines he will throw out when you get too close...thunderpoon him whenevr you can ...4-5 times and it's over.
Some tips:
-Remove your fender for better handling. You have infinite thunder harpoons, which instakill all but the boss.
-Slow down at inclinations. You car loves to jump and you can't turn in the air.
-You can take pretty much all the turns by letting go of the gas, drifting and hitting it again once you are at your desired line.
-Avoid the small dunes at the edge of the track. They can often cause you to spin out. It's better to go a bit slower and avoid them.
-Be carefull when you fire the harpoon. The game will turn the camera to show you the explosion, meaning you can easily go off course or straight up crash because you can't see where you are going.
Grill = Brawl Bar

Tryes = Sandsliders
Suspension = Little Guy Lift
As for hood ornaments, thats up to you, however I usually use 1 for attack or handling, and 1 for weaponary. Sometimes I have weaponary ornaments on front and back just to do more damage each time I hit him.
Now the reason I like this setup is because you do not need a lot of speed as you tend to spin out more on corners, which is why the extra weight helps a lot with cornering. It also makes a big difference if you driving in 1st or 3rd person. 1st person driving is MUCH better. It's a lot easier to control the vehicle.
Also, I highly reccomend FULLY upgrading your thunderpoon. That way it only takes about 4/5 shots to end stanky.
I hope this helps you.
