With a gamepad the game is much much more responsive. I played it both with a gamepad and kb+m and the difference is rather huge. Still sometimes when you mash too many buttons, there is still some sort of a queue, usually 1-2 actions, but that's normal, since you can't always skip the animations.
I pretty much gave up on the keyboard and bought a Logitech F710 Wireless USB Gamepad. I'm much happier now. I now have no input lag whatsoever. Every action goes off without a hitch and I highly recommend this particular gamepad for any Hack & Slasher on PC. Not to mention, the Logitech F710 is the recommended gamepad for Steam by Steam. Just make sure you enable Xinput mode and not Direct unless you want to program your buttons custom. I'm having a great experience with the default Xinput profile.
Castlevainia is a great series. I've played it since the classics were new on the shelves and as much as I loved the classics, I'm finding that the Lords of Shadow series just slaps their storylines silly.
I've owned a just about every classic console at one time or another, even the short-lived Jaguar and 3DO. The Wii and PS3 is the furthest I went with consoles as I have always been focused on PC gaming. I had a PS3 mostly for the Blue-Ray player with added features, but now I just use a Sony Wif-Fi enabled player. So I'm pretty much all PC unless I'm playing an original cartridge game with my girlfriend for nostalgia.
I wish you luck on the keyboard, Freeman. I do suggest you look into a gamepad though. I think you'll find it worth the investment. I don't think that Dave Cox and his team will be updating this port to have better keyboard controls anytime soon, or ever for that matter.
for reals? even the original version had lag? i like the game so far, but man, that lag just make me want my money back
The original console release didn't have input lag.
When Gabriel was already executing an attack action, any additional inputs would not be dropped/ignored and would not cancel out the current attack. Rather they'd be queued up and processed in order, with no way of cancelling them out.
This way you could input complex combo chains 'faster than the game allowed', which was quite nice for experienced players. If played as a button masher, this mechanism ofcourse backfires. Usually the underlying trigger for the complaints regarding 'input lag' on the PS3 and X360 were newbies trying to justify their failure by claiming the game itself was at fault.
Heh, someone didn't make it to the giants.
More like someone should stop jumping to conclusions: I have owned the game on PS3 since release day and since then have finished it multiple times. Now kindly get lost.
Ignorance must be bliss then -- so much input lag. I bet your screen doesn't tear and your FPS is always stable too, right? Right...
Because of this keyboard lag issue I will NOT be purchasing the game. Thanks for the heads up on the issue.
