This game is so far above that mediocre franchise it isn't funny. The GoW games imho weren't even supposed to get past the 1st one.

this is really what i was like.

I liked GoW as well, but at the same time, this is only similar to GoW insofar as they have the same hack-and-slash roots. if anything, it's a bit closer to Devil May Cry.
I can't stand the Studio behind that game personally. SSM is one of the biggest jokes I've ever seen. It's thanks to these people that certain franchises died because Sony dumped projects on them like PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. And I personally can't stand when people HAVE to compare games to GoW, considering this gameplay style was around BEFORE God of War - take Rygar and Castlevania Lament of Innocence as the best examples - besides the God of War franchise being a rehash of the previous one. It's lazy.
This game is more like Lament of Innocence than God of War, LoI had Area Attacks and Direct attacks, Gow has heavy and light, there's a very distinct difference.
I like DMC as well so its all good.
Imagine this, you are a belmont, a hunter of the night, you kill the forces of evil.
well, to start with, your "strong attacks" in GOW are instead replaced with an area attack designed to slow all enemies around you so that you can pick out a target in mid combo.
your direct attacks are brutal and can strike multiple enemies in a single line, allowing you precise, and violent attacks that surgically end your enemy.
next you have the subweapons.
The daggers, for lycans and lesser beasts mainly, the fairies, meant to keep an enemy or a variety of them, occupied while you decide your next target.
the Holy water, for vampires and undead monsters, good for getting rid of them quickly and efficiently.
the shadow crystal, for emergencies and large enemies.(titans)
then you have the blocking, your weapon can stagger enemies when you block, also, you can't block more than one strike, and you're still vulnerable to being attacked when you counter, so you need to think about when, and where to counter your enemies.
dodging is useful because it allows you to escape a power attack, but it can also knock over smaller enemies, allowing you to dodge out of serious damage while doing minor crowd control.
all in all, the combat is designed around the concept of a belmont and how he would actually fight.
You're a hunter of monsters, you have very precise needs in combat, you have very real weaknesses in combat.
so, you need to address each situation tactically, while still maintaining the flow of battle.
also, let me remind all of you that castlevania had long been using whips with a wieght at the end to kill monsters before kratos did. in fact, CV was the inspiration for the combat system.
kratos was just brutality and unmatched fury in chainblade combat form.
lords of shadow's gabriel is hunterly precision and discipline in combat form.
Why the heck do you quote me? I totally agree with you on everything you wrote. T.T
That's why.
Ahhh, okay. I should probably stop drinking while writing on forums it seems. >.>
