I am a first time player to the Castlevania series, can somebody please explain the story to me.

I have never played ANY of the Castlevania gamesnd am unfamilair with the story of belmont, dracula etc. Can someone just give me a brief story interpretation of the games as a whole and who i am playing as, why i would ever play as dracula himself instead of trying to kill dracula and some of the basics of Castlevania that all players should know. Thnak you very much in advance!!!

ps i searched online and on youtube for a catlevania story timeline and history but most websites only tell you about the actual game's history and timeline of how it came to be created not the concept and story of the games.

just read it. Cany you see how confusing it is for a first time castlevania player like myself to even grasp the total amount of titles and versions of the games in the series let alone understand where to even start???? Nobody simply just explainsa summed up description of the story as whole,no need to include ever possible detail or story loop hole. Just say you are this guy "....." this is why, this is who you are looking for or trying to kill, these are the weapons and powerups avaible for you on your quest and what comes next with lords of shadow 2. Thats all i want to hear and learn about so i dont miss a ton of stuff while playing and just jumping into the series with lords of shadow one. Although from the demo, the game does seem very friendly to first time players and makes the story seem new and at least so far doesn't give any references to past games or people. I likle that a lot.

Dude, have you missed a lot! Go catch up on practically ALL Castlevanias. The traditional is 2D though. You need to play: Symphony of the Night, Rondo of Blood (Japanese), Super Castlevania IV, Castlevania III (Japanese) Dracula's Curse. The GBA games are awesome too as well as for the DS. There are others out there also which are pretty good, Castlevania Bloodlines for the Genesis, and the Rondo of Blood SNES editioned, Dracula X. Check the wiki page out for more:

Don't forget Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles on PSP - 5 games in one, tons of extras (Symphony is an unlockable bonus game!!)

sounds great guys but i am a chef and nver have time to play my badass pc games. I am going to try and squeeze lords of shadow in today a little bit after my daily chores and errands on my one day off. But still can either of you just give me a small rundown of the basics of the story of these games as a whole????? thanks

Kill Dracula

Destroy Dracula and his evil minions. Can't wait to buy this game.

A bunch of different people keep killing Dracula and then other people keep bringing him back so he needs to be killed again and sometimes you're playing as Dracula's kid Alucard because that's a very clever thing. Sometimes theres a second castle to explore because something something Dracula's realm and like most of the bosses and enemies just get copied over from game to game because its hard to come up with new monster ideas.

All that said, all of the GBA/PS1/SNES/Genesis/NES games still play pretty good if you can get past no jumping on stairs in the earlier games of those.

I played most of the CV games since NES. This one can be fully enjoyed without knowing the other games because it's the prequel to most other CVs. Everything important is explained through the log.

Actually, this game is set in an "alternate universe" its supposed to be a story thats stand alone, they did that so this game type would feel good to first time castlevania players. However to keep fans of the old story line still engaged they did use the Belmont Clan and obviously Dracula. However none of the belmont clan is really ever talked about i think in this series. And you dont get the awesome "Vampire Killer" which is the Belmont Clans whip(yes they named the whip for what it does, LOL). However in this one you get the "Combat Cross" which actually I like a Whole LOT. Hope this helps,

This one is kind of a reboot of the franchise, the story on Lords of Shadow has little to do with the older games. Never played Mirror of Fate, wich gives you more insight on the plot and timeline, maybe looking that lore up will help you understand some things better.
