Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Ultimate Edition

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Ultimate Edition

Crash on startup
Game shows black screen for a split second, then immediately crashes. I've tried every single fix I've seen on the net... verify game cache, run as admin, run in compatibility mode, close steam and reinstall DXsetup from game folder, set launch options to windowed mode, disable UAC....

Win 7 x64
Intel i5 2500K
3.30 GHZ
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660

Everything is up to date and works perfectly, I just finished a fresh reformat. This is such BS Is it really too much to expect a game you paid for to work without much hassle? The worst part is steam won't do refunds for POS games that won't work so I'll probably end up having to buy it again on console to actually play a working version.

Ohhhh the wonders of PC gaming. :(((

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Worked for me.

Already tried that, but thanks

Sorry for reviving but, did the guide work? Can you run Castelvania: LoS? I am having the same issue.
Wesleypipes77 Feb 14, 2014 @ 10:20am
Nope, I can't on steam. Had to download a torrent which works just fine.:cgpout: Thanks for nothing on this one steam.
SamoIs Feb 14, 2014 @ 10:49am
Did you download the entire game, or just a crack?
Wesleypipes77 Feb 14, 2014 @ 10:57am
The whole game, I play it outside of steam, The entire issue apparently has something to do with Steam itself.
as i recall i had the same issue, it was because of my anti aliasing settings.
SamoIs Feb 14, 2014 @ 2:19pm
How did you fix it?
Wesleypipes77 Feb 14, 2014 @ 7:31pm
My AA setting are the same on or off steam, but the game works fine when I install and play outside of Steam.
ElSamo I didn't fix whatever issue it was here, I still don't even have a clue what the problem was, I just got the torrent and installed it to my Program files like a regular game I don't have through steam and it works fine. Since I purchased the game but it's unplayable for me through the steam service, I don't imagine there is any legal issue about it.

Did you check every thread that had the same issue? I mentioned there was 3 at the time that others were having.

And you went through everything in my guide? And read it all to try everything?

My guide mentions the anti aliasing issues.
But the guide isn't on this forum, it's on another game's forum, although works for all games and pc issues.

Remember that every pc can be different, I'm not getting any issue with this game on steam, never have, as it has always run without issues, but as I mentioned, every pc can be different.
Which is a good reason to go through the guide.

And the guide as I mentioned, is on another game's forum, but fixes most game and pc issues.

I hope everyone here did also buy the game through the steam store, and not some offsite for a key code or something like some games do these days, most tell me after they do that, they can't get their games to work.

Also has everyone here tried other steps like. -

Enable/disable the steam cloud.
Delete the steam cache folder located in the steam folder.
Validated all files by right clicking on your game in the steam library, click properties.
Right click the game's .exe file for compatibility settings which was already mentioned.
And right click to run as admin, or go to the properties of the .exe file to set that for all users.
Set the compatibility to run with windows 7, tinker with it a bit, just don't forget what you set.
You can also right click on the steam.exe file, go to the properties, and set run as an admin for all users.
Don't forget to check your game options in the steam library, and steam options.
When you manually reinstall your game, uninstall first and then manually delete all files in the game's folder, don't let anything be left behind, then reinstall.
Having the right video card can do wonders, anything over geforce 600 series will help alot.
Make sure your video drivers are up to date with physx, maybe you have 2 versions installed.

Although mine is an AMD Vishera FX 8350 8 core processor at 4.0 Ghz with 4.2 Ghz auto boost, and I have an EVGA Geforce GTX 670 FTW Edition, I recently upgraded my ram, but even with only 4 sticks ddr3 1333 mhz 4 GB ram at the time, this game and any other still was able to play well.

Check your add/remove programs to uninstall old video drivers, old physx, or other drivers that shouldn't be there, and if you see double programs "of course look at the versions first".
Then restart first, and try to reinstall the latest drivers and program versions to properly register them with windows.

If you need help getting the drivers again, you can return here and find my link in a comment above to my guide.

Ah, commander, you have quite a presence around here. I have seen your guide. I haven't been able to follow it fully because (And I don't mean this with any ill intent) it is not very organized. I will try to follow the steps listed above and get back to you. I think most of my issues come from the NVIDIA Optimus technology.
