How to beat The Forgotten One on Paladin difficulty
NOBODY here gave any useful advice. This boss is really easy to get to his final stages, not so easy to finish off. In my opinion, the way the health bar looks is extremely deceptive and it’s very easy to die right at the finish line by getting too excited.

Hear me out, anyone that may ever need to beat this boss on the highest difficulty.

The key to beating this boss is to switch between being as close as possible, and as far as possible.

Some legends before we start: 1.) Area-of-effect: attacks that cover large areas at once, and probably cannot be dodged unless you’re far away and maybe even in the air.

2.) Light attack: X on XBOX, Square on PlayStation. This is just about the only button you’ll want to use in my opinion.

Main Strategy: You want to be sprinting from one side to the other CONSTANTLY and NEVER get caught on the edges of the arena. Staying in motion is KEY to keeping yourself alive, and in this fight, the dodge button is NOT good enough. If you’ve done the Ogre boss fight and completed the trial to not get hit once, you’ll know exactly what I mean. You only want to come in close when he does certain attacks, and after you land a few hits, RUN AWAY because he will use his Area-of-Effect attacks the moment he can if you’re near him.

How to approach each attack:

1.)When he’s slashing left to right: you either need to be stupid close to roll behind him, or just use the boots to stay away until he does a different attack. You DONT need to get damage EVERY time he commits to an attack. Slow and steady wins the race.

2.)When he slashes straight down with a burning flame: Just dashing left or right. If you’re sprinting across the screen and waiting it’ll be easy. Honestly, he recovers pretty quick after this attack, so I wouldn’t get near him yet. He usually throws one of his Area-of-Effect attacks right away.

3.) When he does the slash with both arms going down: This is the easiest one to get caught in if you aren’t paying attention, but if you get used to stopping when you see him doing it, you won’t get hit. Once those blades are down, just use a SINGLE JUMP. Do NOT double jump. You’ll be able to land a 4+ hit combo on his face for free as he closes the blades together under you and does not hit you. As soon as he resets position, you need to be ready to RUN AWAY before he gets his Area-of-Effect attack off.

4.) Spikes straight down: This is an Area-of-Effect attack, just get the heck away from him!

5.) Ball and Chain/Flail: Whatever you want to call this thing, as long as you’re in motion, you should be totally find to approach him. This is my 2nd favorite time to attack because he spends a lot of time dragging it on the floor. Once he’s about to bring the ball and chain back to himself, get the HECK AWAY because he’s going to use it to slam the ground where he’s standing. That brings me to my next attack.

6.) Slams Ball and Chain/Flail down at the ground: This is another Area-of-Effect. Get AWAY.

7.) Jumps in the sky and lands on you: This attack is ANNOYING, but pretty easy to avoid. Yes, it’s going to take you out of a comfortable position a lot of times, but you have to avoid this attack at all costs. He’s going to come down pretty shortly after you’re able to see his shadow, so do yourself a favor and play it safe. Be sprinting away, jump, DOUBLE JUMP and stay moving away from him even in the air. This attack has a very annoying range at times so don’t risk it, and don’t try to hit him right away, but if it looks like he isn’t going to sword slash, you should be okay.

8.) Charge/Dash Attack: When he does this, it’s pretty telegraphed, just be sprinting to a side and dodge out the way for extra safe measure. He is usually going to shoot pretty far past you and he recovers pretty quick from this, so I wouldn’t recommend trying to run across the arena to get a hit in.

9.) Torpedo spikes: he shoots spikes across the screen that leave explosions and trails of fire. This attack can make or break it for you. If you stand in the middle range you are screwed. If you can get close to him during the attack, then you get major free damage. Again, just make sure to be ready to run because he will Area-of-effect you the second he can. If you’re really really far away, I have good and bad news for you. Bad news is that you won’t get to put any damage on him. Good news is that it’s really easy to avoid getting hit by the torpedos and you can even double jump to fly over their path. I’d advise to try and get most of your damage during the ball/chain and the double sword attack like I said earlier, but this isn’t a bad time if you see an opening.

Final conclusion: Yes there’s definitely a way to maximize more damage and kill this boss faster than I advised. However, if you’re here, you just don’t have it like that bud. I’m sorry, but having the discipline to chop a tree down slowly is just as valuable as the will to hack away at one nonstop. Perhaps even more valuable in the long run. Know when to run toward him, and know when to just stay on the edge of the arena/map and just be a total coward until you can regain some sense of rhythm. Also, if you pay attention, none of my strats really involve double jumping when attacking. Again, you definitely could try to pump more damage out of the guy by using guillotine and slamming down. However, from my experience, if you hit him at the times that I told you to, he ducks down a little and he’s totally hittable with 1 jump. What’s good about this? You can escape faster, less commitment in terms of frames, and you can start hitting him sooner rather than waiting for the frames of the double jump and the attack to come into play. Also you could stop attacking if you want to absorb orbs or anything of the sort.

Also none of your tools work against him. No daggers, no crystal, none of it. So don’t try it! You can use a crystal to pause him for a moment, but I don’t see a point to that unless you really really need 1 free hit at the tail end, which tbh you won’t know when you’re at the tail end because the health bar moves in chunks LOL!

Good luck! I hope I was able to help more than the guides that I saw before I beat ol’ Forgotten. Everyone else’s advice kind of sucked imo.

Definitely useful for both fights. Although, this fight is 10x easier than the final fight in the open. His health depletes much faster, his targetable limbs are easier to reach, and his damage and ranges are nowhere near as devastating.

So I would still recommend new players reading my breakdown if they need the extra layer of assistance.

I probably forgot to put outhere the 2nd phase fight with the Forgotten one (oh the irony xD). But if i remember correctly - the skeletons (16 of them) and the platforming section are harder than the actual 2nd stage - you can bait him for a specific attack again and again to combo him out of existence. The problem is I am really far away from my real pc with all those vids to even check if I saved it to download T_T

Utilizing the Stomp move makes the fight much easier. It lets you be more aggressive with more opportunities to attack.
