Shadows of Mordor is a lot of fun too, but if you've played Assassin's Creed you'll start to get tired of it rather quickly as even the nemesis system doesn't differentiate it that much.
I'd have to say Lord of Shadows is kind of like a God of War game (that statement is opening a can of worms for Castlevania fans) while Mordor is an openish world, Assassin's Creed type game.
I have yet to finish LoS but like previous poster wrote, the camera shifts are mess. The game is quite boring at first but you start unlocking new things in a fast pace at the end of act 2 and forward that adds a bit more combat variations. LoS also forces you to explore areas coz it doesn't hold your hands all the time by showing "GO THERE! THATS THE WAY!" and sometimes I find myself stuck at one place for like 5 - 10 minutes because I have no idea where to go.
If you can afford it then buy both. If you can only buy one of them then buy the one that seems the most fun to your interests.
