How to Harvest sugar cane

Can anyone please tell me how to get sugar cane? I see them, and there's no interaction with them, so I turn into a boar and stomp on them (I thought I might have to do it like with trees) nothing, I turn back into a girl, I grab my oni club and start to whack it, but it does nothing! I try for a solid hour (in-game time) and I'm doing nothing to it other than making it shake! Do I need an actual sword? Or an axe? I need the sugar cane for the summer bundle, so can someone please explain to me what to do here?

Hey there A Misty Shadow

I would say you should try find Kinntarou, performing that quest line should reward you with twin boar blades to use. If the boar blades do not work acquire some higher level tools!

Wait... you mean the one where he got hurt so I gave him a boar ride home? The one that I completed in the first week of spring?! I did that and all I got out of it was two strawberry cakes! What do I do now? Because we just have normal interactions now!

There's one after that were he wants you to get a bubble soda. Not sure on prerequisites.

as for other methods.
make one in the Yokai cauldron(?) (will need to make other things to process items to get the materials required to unlock the recipe
buy/make at Hephaestus's forge once you unlock that
there's some in the world or quest rewards

Though, this is more for bamboo, sugar cane appears to be bugged.

Okay can confirm... the sugar canes are bugged, they don't even move when I hit them with my blades, that is so not cool :(

i hit those sugarcane with my scythe which had logging lvl 1 and mining lvl 1 and guess what? i doesn't move too
