Hope it does launch with choice of playing as female. If not I will not be buying it. Gender choice is a staple of these types of games. Look at your competition, they all have gender choice.
The KS says the female protag is a stretch goal. What kind of absolute backwards horseshyte is that?
Hell, if I'm reading this right, character CUSTOMIZATION is a stretch goal ($600k at that). If that's true that would imply that not only would all the players be male, they'd all look exactly the same.
I had thought, from the screenshots this was at the very least an established indie studio, maybe even a AA. Now finding out it's very existence seems to rely entirely on Kickstarter, least of all having what would generally be considered to be core features as high-end stretch goals... tempers my excitement immensely.
With Kickstarter, it's not just about earning the money. It's how well an unknown quantity can manage that funding to deliver a finished and polished product. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens over the next month.
Looking at both the numbers for the stretch goals and what they contain I find it hard not to think they priced the initial game FAR too low. This means they will quite likely meet their funding goal and get all the money, but not have enough to actual deliver a whole and complete game. With all the things considered bog standard for the farming sim gaming industry hidden behind stretch goals I'm guessing they hope to incentivize more donations. But it makes me extremely wary. I get a strong sense that the dev(s) don't actually know what they're doing RE: kickstarting a game.
There are so many farming sims out there, more than I could ever hope to play. I'll put my money towards ones that don't lock my gender behind capitalism.
If so, I'll wait
Likely to, pffft.
Moving the goal to a lower amount is still absolutely stupid. Whatever extra you feel it costs you to program the oh so difficult female into your game should have been included as the base goal and price. Same as all the other "necessities". Locking a gender choice behind a paywall says a lot of disgusting things that I really should not have to explain.
A female protag should be part of the BASE GAME. Not a goal. Not a ploy for more money. Not locked behind a dollar amount.
Other farming sims are offering nonbinary options, and you're over here thinking that including women is optional. smh.
