Kenshi
Keyboard input limited
Swrry for posting this here not sure if the bugs section gets any attention.
I am only able to use the esc, backspace, and arrow keys. When it comes to typing a name for a character or to label a save I am not able to. Same with moving the camera any help would be much appreciated. I have tried using the stable version and the experimental and both do not work, not sure what happened because i used to be able to. I mean it is not game breaking or anything but a little bothersome when the game crashes and I only have the autosaves. That being said this is still one of my favorite early access titles keep up the great work. :FlashFreeze:Happy Holidays:FlashFreeze:

Just as an aside, I know this likely won't be the same version as what was available then (I haven't tried Kenshi for a while) but I did try the latest experimental version (0.72.1) that was released just a few days ago I believe. I too had the same problem as the original poster, with the keyboard being basically unusable except for a few keys.

However, I did try the 32 bit version in the Kenshi folder and the keyboard worked again! So although I don't know what the OP's version was, at least in this version and on my system the 64 bit version is not really an option. Can't even see the map, or scroll the screen like I'm used to. :)

Is there anything unique about your keyboard in terms of design or connectivity?
Ddraig Feb 11, 2015 @ 1:35pm
There could be, as it isn't a regular keyboard in all fairness... it's a Cyborg v7 keyboard, like this one:

My keyboard [www.cyborggaming.com]

As far as I know, it's pretty much just a standard USB keyboard but with "pretty" configurable lights, programmable keys, and some multimedia functions (volume, play/pause/next etc).

All the latest drivers from Mad Catz's website have been installed, it shows up in Device Manager as "Saitek Cyborg Keyboard (USB)", along with "Saitek Cyborg Keyboard Gaming Keys (HID)" and "Saitek Cyborg Keyboard Hot Keys (HID)". It does have a program where you can load profiles into the keyboard so you can issue macros to the programmable keys, but no specific profiles are in use or anything like that. I rarely have need to use them.

If it is to do with the keyboard, I'd have thought it would be a little odd that it only has issues with the 64 bit version but not the 32 bit one? It does seem to be the only game I have where this issue crops up, in all my other games the keyboard works fine.

Just for reference, my system specs are:

Intel i5 760
8GB RAM
Geforce 760 GTX
Onboard sound (VIA High Definition Audio)
Roccat Kone XTD mouse
216GB free on the drive I use for Steam, although only just over 12GB on my Windows drive
Win7 Home Premium, 64 bit

I am using a standard k120 logitech keyboard.

I7-3770k
gtx 780
32gb ram
250gb ssd
x2 1tb hdd

Well I had a theory that this might be an issue with upper scale keyboards with programable buttons and wireless functionality but that seems to not be the case.

It mgiht be some bizzare compatability issue with the game and your drivers, you could try pluging in a different keyboard and seeing if that works or even using generic keyboard drivers if your willing to go that far.

One more question though is your keyboard plugged directly into your tower or is it connected to a USB hub first?

Mine is connected to the motherboard asrock z77 extreme 6 if I recall correctly.
I have been meaning to get a nicer keyboard, will post here once picked one up with the results.
Thank you for your time and getting back with us, peace.

Mine is like Emotional Shawty's and is connected directly to the computer. Just for reference, the motherboard's an ASUS P7P55D, I believe.

I did think last night I could try disabling the software that came with my keyboard? Although it hasn't caused problems before... and yes, if I can I could try uninstalling the drivers (although Win7 may just reinstall them). It would be strange if it was one, the other or both though...

I do have another keyboard I could use but again, it's not quite a standard keyboard per se (it's a CoolerMaster CM Storm Trigger [gaming.coolermaster.com]). I'd have to borrow it from my sister's computer although I doubt she'd mind for just a little while. ;) Sadly I don't think I have any "normal" keyboards around anymore...
Nadlug Feb 12, 2015 @ 12:16pm
Given that Emotionals k120 wont work and my K200 does work i dont think it has anything to do with the keyboard themselves anymore.

It still could be a driver issue but thats just spitballing ideas for you guys to try.
Ddraig Feb 12, 2015 @ 2:19pm
I'd agree with you. I just tried uninstalling all the drivers that came with the Cyborg keyboard, but no luck. There was a newer version of the driver software for it but that didn't help. Trying out the CM Storm Trigger didn't work either.

I did also find a newly released driver for my graphics card, but again, that hasn't helped. Either Emotional and I have some strange software/ hardware setups which 64-bit Kenshi doesn't like, or there's an issue with Kenshi itself...

And as I typed that out, I just found the problem, at least for me! :)

I'd tried turning off my antivirus (Avast) temporarily but that didn't work. However, I do use Zemana Keystroke Antilogger Free, which is supposed to help protect against keyloggers. It seems that the keystroke encryption it uses doesn't play nice with Kenshi. Turn it off, and the keyboard works fully in the 64 bit version. :)
Liquid Lobotomy Feb 12, 2015 @ 2:34pm
Whoa! I also have the Zemana Keystroke Antilogger and proceeded to disable it and my keys all work in Kenshi 64 bit now. Thank you so much :Hand_Shake:
Ddraig Feb 12, 2015 @ 2:45pm
No problem! Glad we ruled out a hardware or driver problem! It's the first time I've known it to interfere with anything, so either it or Kenshi needs an update to take that into account. And in the future, if anything odd happens with my keyboard in a game, I know where to look first. ;)
Nadlug Feb 12, 2015 @ 6:27pm
Woah I never would of imagined that an anti keylogger would cause something like this. Though in hindsight it does make sense.

Hey Neko make sure Cap'n read this thread, shoudl be something they can fix on the programming side.

Im gona write a note down incase something like this comes up again.
Liquid Lobotomy Feb 14, 2015 @ 9:16am
Just to tripple confirm the findings of Zemana keylogger to be the problem, recreated the conditions with new keyboard (Corsair K70 RGB) . The findings are the same, with it on the input is limited, without all keys work as they should. Later
