How to report a bug or crash
Please familiarise yourself with this thread on known issues and potential fixes before posting.

Reporting an issue:
If you experience a bug with Kenshi or Kenshi crashes/closes unexpectedly it’s important to try and provide us with information from the game and some context on what you were doing before the problem happened. This can be done via crash dumps, game logs, saved games or screenshots.

Note: Game logs must be uploaded before the game is restarted as the information in each will be lost on when the game starts.

Search existing topics first:
Before creating a thread please use the search feature to see if a recent thread with a similar topic has been created, if it has add your information to the topic as a new comment. Do not make a new topic. This helps us to cross reference information from users experiencing similar issues and understand how common an issue is.

If all you find are reports from more than 6 months ago or an older game version, please make a new thread instead, as we lock all old bug report threads that get necro'd.

Include the version number and a brief description in your title:
Please include the version number in the topic title so we can tell which version of the game you are running or which branch you’re on.
For example, your topic title might read: ‘[1.0.33] Crash when changing squad names’
The version number can be found in the title bar when you play in windowed mode or in the upper left corner when loading a saved game.

Information to include in your post:
  • Crash dumps (if the issue is a crash or unexpected close)
  • Game logs (optional)
  • A saved game (optional)
  • Reproduction steps (important)
  • A screenshot (optional)
  • System specifications
  • Any steps you've taken so far to attempt to resolve the issue

Finding your ‘Crash dumps’:
If Kenshi crashes, it will generate a file called crashDump.0.xx.x.zip, in the main install folder. (The default path for the folder is 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi')

When making a topic to report a crash please upload this file and provide a link in the thread. There’s a short list of reputable free file hosts at the bottom of this thread.

No Crash dump generated in Kenshi folder:
If the game did not generate a ‘crashDump.zip’ file you can still provide additional information by uploading the ‘Kenshi.log’ and ‘Kenshi_info.log’ files located in the main install folder. (The default path for the folder is 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi')

These must be uploaded before the game is restarted as the information in each will be lost on when the game starts.

Adding your saved game:
If you believe it will help with providing context or reproducing the events that lead to your issue, please include a copy of your saved game. Do this by zipping and uploading the folder corresponding to the saved game you wish to provide. (The default path for saved games is 'C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\kenshi\save' or if the save in user folder option is disabled 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi\save\')

Reproduction steps:
If your issue can be consistently reproduced it’s important to tell us how. Please give a brief step by step explanation of what’s needed to cause the bug or crash to occur. This is especially important if you cannot provide any of the files above.

Feel free to add screenshots if you feel it helps with your explanation.

System Specifications:
If you experience a technical or graphical error it’s important to provide some information on the parts in your computer. You can do this with the following steps:
  1. Open the start menu.
  2. Type ‘cmd’ (without quotes).
  3. Hit enter to open the command prompt.
  4. Type ‘dxdiag’ (without quotes).
  5. Hit enter, after a short time a window will appear including your system information.
  6. Press ‘Save All Information’.
  7. Upload the file this created /OR/ open it and copy/paste the ‘System Information' setting.

Where to upload files:
Any file host will do as long as you can provide a direct link to the file and it’s not a problematic website such as hosts full of questionable advertising. Below are a few of my favourites:
