Kenshi
all squad members in a save file have disappeared
on my second playthrough i recently acquired a few new members for my squad, but realized thata a larger group moves much more slowly than a single person. so i started a new game for a lone explorer (holy sword, if it matters) and after exploring for a bit and found a good spot to set up camp. so i loaded up my older file with 11 squadmembers, and to my dismay found they're all gone without a trace, including my main character. the swuad menu even shows 0/20....what's going on?

another thing that struck me as strange was that in the newer holy sword playthrough, the entire shek kingdom was desolate. none of the major cities or outposts i had previously explored had a single resident. this seems unrelated, but still very strange, almost like pcs and npcs are just disappearing
please zip up and upload the affected save folder.

Please upload the crashdump.zip file.
if the game did not create one, then zip up and upload the kenshi.txt or the Kenshi._info.txt file after the game crashes and before you restart it.

You can find the files at default install location
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi
Save file locations are at default install location
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi\save

To upload your crashdump.zip or Kenshi.zip ( Kenshi.log file ) or save folder,
You can use any of these free cloud storage services
dropbox[www.dropbox.com]
googledrive[www.google.com]
File Dropper[www.filedropper.com]
or the main forum[www.lofigames.com] ( 10 megs max ) to post your bug reports.
You can post the link on the steam forums or on the Lo-Fi Forums.

Any free cloud storage service should be acceptable long as it offers free access to the data for non registered users.

You can read the pinned topic How to report a crash/bug for more information on how to report bugs.

There is a fix for this, in an old thread.

Involves finding the platoon in fcs and copy paste... relatively simple witha crib sheet.

I can try,

Kenshi rout folder something like:
*\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi

In here you will find
Save folder and "forgotten construction set.exe"

In the save folder look for the broken save and then in a subfolder called platoon look for the name of your missing squad.

eg
*\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kenshi\save\curiosity\platoon
where curiosity is the name of my save in-game and in folder.

In platoon your looking for your broken squad, nameless_0 will probably be one of them, after that yopur looking for factionname_X where faction name is your customised name and X is the number of that squad.

If you have multiple squads then open the forgottenconstruction.exe and on right hand side there is a button called "Open any" just click through any pop ups till you get there.

Using the open any button select the suspect platoon file and scroll down the list in the window till you see the names of your missing characters. Should be able to identify which is the correct squad in this manner.

Once you know the broken platoon make a note.

Now start kenshi load the broken save, go to squads tab and create a new blank squad (don't put anyone in it). make a note of its name eg factionname_X. Now quicksave. Exit kenshi.

Go back to the kenshi folder open up the quick save folder and locate the new empty platoon you just created. (should be 1kb size). make not of its name and delete it.

Go to the platoon folder of your broken save, locate the broken platoon and rename it the same as the one from the quicksave. Now copy that file into the quicksave folder.

Start Kenshi, load quicksave and if everything went well your characters should be there. To tidy up go squad page and delete any empty squad tabs that might be left over. (shouldn't be any).

Save game and check via load screen that last save has the correct number of characters in the summary window.

Best of luck.

sorry for the late reply, I immediately continued with the Holy Sword character cuz the game is just too damn good to just wait for a fix lol

HaTsUnE_NeKo here's the save file so the bug can be looked at:
http://www.filedropper.com/affectedsavefile

and SnugSnug Thanks for the help but I kinda named everything the same for multiple files. same character names, faction names, squad names, squad numbers. So I've just elected to continue with my other profile

and anyone else who has ghost towns with missing people, I found that importing your save fixes that

And for anyone else with same issue reading this...

I read somewhere else that some people also had success with import for missing squad using the squad reposition option.
