Kenshi
Text missing when typing names/saved
Whenever I go to type, either to rename squad, person or save, nothing appears. The text cursor moves like a letter is there, but nothing appears at all.

I’ve tried disabling all mods, verifying file integrity, and pressing CTRL+F2, but nothing.

Any advice or help? I’m using Windows 11 and my PC handles the game great, if that matters.

A few reports of this over the years. Usually the fix was something like tapping alt or ctrl a few times, because it may have been a stuck key interfering. Or rebooting the game.
I’ve unfortunately tried CTRL to no avail and a full reboot. I’ll try fiddling with my alt key and reinstalling later on. Saw some previous mention of the issue but also seems very rare.

Appreciate the fast response!
Is your PC set to a non-English region? Can you think of any third-party software on your system that might mess with inputs?

If you type something into the save box, does the game actually let you save? If you then go to your saves folder (%localappdata%\Kenshi), what do you see in there?
PC isn’t set to anything but an English region, and I can’t imagine anything I have messing with those inputs. I use a Logitech keyboard that is programmable but never had any issues and don’t use the feature much.

The game does NOT let me save when trying to type. It gives me an error saying I used a forbidden character. It obviously recognizes something’s there, but not what it is.

I can save if I select another file to save over (because it fills in that box with text).

I’ll check out my save file folder in a few hours when I’m back home! Anything I should look for specifically?

Try switching to English keyboard and see if that helps. Kenshi cannot handle any other symbol than the English alphabet.
Thank you all for the help, the solution was actually just a simple computer reset.

It's possible this wasn't even Kenshi related and just bad timing (though it never happened before). Essentially it WAS an issue with my CTRL key being stuck, just not physically. Pressing it and fiddling didn't work, but restarting my PC entirely solved the issue.

Thanks again though, you all rock.
