Just imagine this one with about 30 "soldiers" under your command...

This is more my style. XD

Mind you, mine's probably a tad over-dramatic. ;)
but before that was added i used to listen to industrial EMB and the like while i played.
I think the music in both convey the original intent and feeling the world should have.
All I hear is the bass, du-dun... du-dun... du-dun. Drives me crazy. I can see how for some, or maybe even most people, it would portray the emptiness and wasteness of the world. I have to hear some more motivating, and perhaps adventurous sounds to get me going. Otherwise I go with the mood the theme sets, and for me it was slaughtering the experience.
I don't really remember the RDR music. I think I might've turned it down to nothing as well. XD Just taste I guess. If I play with the normal music it just feels like a miserable wasteland. :(
It is still a WIP, maybe you like it more at a later point. :D
and btw i hate all the samples in this thread, horrible!
some are even real p*beep* ;)
and do not listen the fish, he must be drunk, this music is terrible, well at least very stressful.
With a music like this i would play one hour and then i would go outside to kill someone.
I actually like the music Fishy linked, it is quite powerful.
Still I wouldn't like to see it in Kenshi at all, fits not a bit lol
Also calm down Drakken, no need to discuss. We like Kenshi's music and they don't - everybody has their own taste.
YES! This exactly.
Here is the title music from RDR, music is almost non-existent until the 2 minute mark. But man how I love how they mixed the ambiance with the music!

I feel Kenshi is very close to this, as there are moments of silence in the tracks, or at least they get very quiet at times. Correct me if I am wrong but are there not wind blowing sounds in the tracks at parts?
Edit: Actually the title screen of RDR varies in its scene and music, depending on where you last left off. Kotaku has a recent article about the music and sound:
http://kotaku.com/to-really-appreciate-red-dead-redemption-listen-to-it-1667492922
But before the new music I did listen to a playlist of: SomethingALaMode, Break of Reality, Rob Scallon, Zack Hemsey, and E.S. Posthumus. So needless to say those never really cut it for Kenshi.
'Miserable Wasteland'
You hit the nail right on the head without even knowing it. Music does it's job fine, if you don't like it, it means you just don't like it, in which case, you can use your own music. I usually use my own music during a tough battle. In this situation, the atmosphere created by the sound reflects the emotion of the desert pretty nicely.
