Theme music...
Am I the only one who just thinks the theme music for this game is terrible? It was such a turn off, in my review for this game I even added it as a negative.

However... Since listening to theme music on youtube while playing... It has made the game have a completely different feel to it for me. And I'm very much enjoying it more.

Music has always made a significant impact to me in video games, especially when done properly. Similar to FFVII, their music, at the right times made the events happening around you even more epic than they were. Similarly, with this game, I'm very relaxed while playing now, and having a completely different experience.

That is what I'm listening to. It's relaxing, and makes it much more... atmospheric.

Personally, I'd like to mod the game as to where the Ben-Hur soundtrack is playing through the speakers, instead of this vanilla crap that came with the game.

Just imagine this one with about 30 "soldiers" under your command...

Yeah for sure. That sounds pretty epic. Maybe a little too medieval sounding? Maybe not. Maybe I haven't adjusted to it yet. But pretty epic.

This is more my style. XD

Mind you, mine's probably a tad over-dramatic. ;)

I like how the music is in this game. Its subtle at times and matches the mood, i think. The closest comparison I have is the music from Red Dead Redemption.
I think the music in both convey the original intent and feeling the world should have.

All I hear is the bass, du-dun... du-dun... du-dun. Drives me crazy. I can see how for some, or maybe even most people, it would portray the emptiness and wasteness of the world. I have to hear some more motivating, and perhaps adventurous sounds to get me going. Otherwise I go with the mood the theme sets, and for me it was slaughtering the experience.

I don't really remember the RDR music. I think I might've turned it down to nothing as well. XD Just taste I guess. If I play with the normal music it just feels like a miserable wasteland. :(

I agree with Hatsune, wonderful music but what exactly do you mean with "bass, du-dun.."?

It is still a WIP, maybe you like it more at a later point. :D

I don't like music in games when I'm outdoors in a game; I like the ambient sound of nature, the wind and clashing blades. No problems with music in driving games, spaceship games and such (where a radio or sound system could actually be playing in the cockpit), but walking the wilderness - speakers hidden in the ground playing music breaks my immersion. RDR got the recipe right because the Morriconesque tunes gave it a very spaghetti western feel. Enter a bar or something like that, and having music is ok, provided it's not a Star Wars game, as that universe has had 2 melodies playing over and over in all their bars for thousands of years.

this is one of the very rare game i am playing with the music, maybe the only one.

and btw i hate all the samples in this thread, horrible!
some are even real p*beep* ;)

and do not listen the fish, he must be drunk, this music is terrible, well at least very stressful.
With a music like this i would play one hour and then i would go outside to kill someone.

I actually like the music Fishy linked, it is quite powerful.
Still I wouldn't like to see it in Kenshi at all, fits not a bit lol

Also calm down Drakken, no need to discuss. We like Kenshi's music and they don't - everybody has their own taste.

I'd be lying if I said I even knew what the soundtrack sounded like. The only games I play the music on is the Total War series and the Payday series. Any other game and I have music up in the background.

Well, "Western" fits perfectly here; it's a game of Samurai, not European knights, but I'm sure the developer might add something to spice things up eventually.

YES! This exactly.

Here is the title music from RDR, music is almost non-existent until the 2 minute mark. But man how I love how they mixed the ambiance with the music!

I feel Kenshi is very close to this, as there are moments of silence in the tracks, or at least they get very quiet at times. Correct me if I am wrong but are there not wind blowing sounds in the tracks at parts?

Edit: Actually the title screen of RDR varies in its scene and music, depending on where you last left off. Kotaku has a recent article about the music and sound:

the soundtrack/themes make me paranoid every time they change i think somethings coming to attack me <.<
I like the in-game music. It provides a unique audio atmosphere for an interesting in game atmosphere. It fits very well imho.

But before the new music I did listen to a playlist of: SomethingALaMode, Break of Reality, Rob Scallon, Zack Hemsey, and E.S. Posthumus. So needless to say those never really cut it for Kenshi.

'Miserable Wasteland'
You hit the nail right on the head without even knowing it. Music does it's job fine, if you don't like it, it means you just don't like it, in which case, you can use your own music. I usually use my own music during a tough battle. In this situation, the atmosphere created by the sound reflects the emotion of the desert pretty nicely.
