but.. if you have no place to store it. sell it.
CPU's are profit. always sell those.
Very early, if you are not crafting you can hold on to items to build with, but even they can be easily made once you decide to do so.
There is no purple/red/blue etc "rare" loot like in other games.
1) research cost items (like books)
2) maps
3) stolen goods to the vendor you stole from
4) contraband in uptight neighborhood
everything else, go for it
If you're setting up a bigger base with the necessary industry, money becomes a non-issue later on and therefore if you really feel like you need those stuff back, simply buy it from npcs and give him 1-2 katanas for compensation. So it's better to sell that stuff early on and invest the money into something you can make use of now (or at least in the near future).
Unless you have a clear objective, like "Im gonna build a wall", if you're unaware of what you need, you probably dont need much for now. Granted, if you start base building, maybe you'll regret selling some high end stuff, even might miss some electrical components, but most of it can be bought at the "tools store" (I cant recall their names in game, but their sign is a screwdriver paired with a spanner/wrench).
You might even find some ancient books and engineering researches at some tech hunters. I avoid buying any research stuff, I try to find it all in ruins, but my insane number of mods might make it hard sometimes not to buy these books. Aside from those, i tend to sell everything Im not equipping.
Sometimes I might save some equipment for the newcomers Im planning to recruit...
So yeah, if you dontk now much of the game yet you should refrain for worrying too much aside from the research items
I would keep all good grade Crossbows etc. because the buy value is like 6k vs 1.5k sell value. And a cheap 3k recruit with 1 crossbow skill can still help you rather than trying to fight a skimmer with pure melee in the early game - plus trying to save up 60k then hire 15 hivers then spend another 60k on Crossbows can cost a lot.
If youre having money problems, there are also some game exploits like hash which are a real easy market with pack animals.
Currently tho, Im doing the exact opposite of everything you said in that guide hahaha, I'm forcing a "buyless" run which means I'm doing my best to avoid buying high grade equipment (weapons and armor as well as research stuff). I wont refrain from buying materials (like I also did last run), so I can only have high grade stuff from drops or crafting. I'm also limited to 30 units (might use the mod for owning cats lol), no animals (so everyone has to carry the loot), no ranged weapons.
Had to worry about looting armor from enemy's bosses and hoarding it for the first month of the game lol
Oh yeah also trying not to buy limbs from merchants, only creating them or buying the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones from the hivers.
So I do hoard the limbs I find also. And also "hashless" run, no exploit on their selling prices.
Even still, im getting close to half a million to invest in my base once I decide to settle. Havent decided where yet tho.
