Importing (Yes or no?)
After having not played the game for a while I forgot some bits about import. Its options is lying to you. You won't have world in same state such as prisoners, your captured bounties, and a lot more. If you want the game easier or quality of life improvements then find and install more mods instead.

Many mods will require the save to be imported in order for them to work right if they weren't there to begin with. Savefile bloat can only be reversed by importing the save. Certain towns (especially Okran's Shield) will end up with most of their garrison depleted functionally after a while and that will require an import to fix if you don't decide to actively cull their guard population.
Dead shopkeepers can only be brought back by an import or save editing if their platoon still exists.

Aside from notable prisoners they are all replaceable, and their world states will still consider them imprisoned after an import so the only reason that matters is if you are keeping them as trophies or haven't bothered claiming their bounty yet.
that is known about importing
importing also helps clear up your save file bloat. so is needed from time to time to improve your game play performance.

I see. Save file bloat would make me really sad about having to import. I hope Kenshi 2 will not suffer the same fate.

Maybe you could remove the 'do not import' bit from the title. just because not importing ever will cause eventually very bad lag and crashes and some people only read titles. Thank you.

I mean i never had crashes when i never imported the game. Why should it lead to crashes? I don´t know after how many hours that´s supposed to happen. Usually if You have no real challenges left, discovered almost the whole map, did some world state changes, have a big base, endgame stats and gear - the game is probably "beaten", and starting a new one is perhaps the better idea than importing.

When i have bad lag in certain areas. Leaving and restarting the game will fix it.

And when is the savegame bloated? What´s the supposed size of it? I read some have gigabyte files, which is probably bloated, but my biggest is 140 MB. Is that okay, or bloated?

I thought importing is for things like: some things in the savegame are broken, or to revive people, or if You want to remove certain mods from a savegame, which i would never do to begin with.

OP only says that importing the game also has some downsides. I for myself did it once, to know what happens - and i wouldn´t import again, because it resets the map. Like You can´t see on the map which locations You´ve already visited and which not, as no tooltip with the people in it - or the ownership appears. And others handle the import function as something which should be done for the slightest issues (like after leaving rebirth the formations won´t work, because everybody has the slave status, which gets removed on an import, instead of "fixing" the formation, as the formation will fix itself after the timer runs out.)

I was told to save under a brand new name everytime, because it leads to game bugs if I just replace the same old saves every time. I was also told to load only from the main menu. Question is if I make 89 different saves and delete all of them within the game, does that leave file residue or am I golden and will likely be bug free?

Nah. It doesn´t work like that. I usually have 2 or 3 save files - but for the reason, that if one doesn´t work i have a backup. Or if i want to roll back...

If You´ve got an SSD, which i guess, it will be that way that the data is written on the least used bits, which aren´t reserved. No matter if You overwrite or make a new save. With 89 saves You just block SSD space for no reason.

But else it works like that, that the data is stored somewhere, and the name is the reference to it. Like if You delete something, it´s actually not deleted, but only the reference to the data is removed. While on a HDD it may be directly overwritten, because it probably writes from the inner part of the disk to the outside, if certain areas aren´t reserved.

Loading form the main menu is probably a good idea. I for myself quit the game and restart to load a game, but i rarely load a game, and i do it like this in most games...
