So will we have boats and stuff in kenshi 2?

The moderator said the ocean levels used to be much higher and had issues with piracy, man having my own pirate ship sounds amazing, although if we're using the current K1 map, i don't see how great the ocean voyaging would be

That could means Kenshi's continent would be smaller. Would boats get to have engines so travelling to places would be faster? Even faster than a character with top athletic and masterwork scout legs?

The swamp prolly would be flooded, that means no cheap hemp. Then travel thru that river from swamp, borderzone, Okran's Pride then Wend passing armour king toward Floodland. Not sure if Flat Lagoons would have a floating town.

Well sails would work just as good, however i don't see how good the map will actually be if it's flooded, i mean essentially you'll mainly be left with mountains.

Last year the devs held an AMA on reddit. A couple answers of note with regards to the topic.

Q: Will there be new continents with their own lore/factions to explore or will it be the same continent as in the first Kenshi?
A: Both

Q: With the talk of Kenshi 2, will it be the exact same land mass but before the empire fall or will there be more areas to explore?
A: It's the same land mass, but changed, and also hopefully expanded by 50%

Q: How many new gameplay mechanics are you planning on adding into Kenshi 2?
A: There will be one big huge feature that will change things up a lot. Not sure when to announce it. Not sure why I'm not announcing it yet either.

That, combined with the lore we know from Kenshi 1 about the sea level once being higher, boats apparently being common back in the day, the Second Empire's (which is the time period game 2 is set during) issues with piracy, and all the old concepts for boats[www.google.com] in Kenshi 1.

It all paints a picture of boats being a heavy possibility in my opinion. From the old and new concept art, I'd wager they'd range from small things primarily used for transport, to large barges that would function much like mobile bases. Could be interesting, we'll have to wait and see. We don't even know if they really are the secret feature being referenced.

I cringe every time I see that "poll". It is always stated the player base voted overwhelming to start Kenshi 2. While that is true, 85% vs 17%, it was only 35 people that voted?

That was just the one posted on the Lo-Fi site itself (which is very inactive). The actual news post had a strawpoll link, which got over 30k votes.

That makes me feel a bit better about it. Thanks I had forgotten I voted on the Straw poll myself.

Any place to keep fully up to date on kenshi 2 news? I'd like to check the progress on a regular basis lol

Best place is the news posts here on Steam. Caliburn makes monthly community update posts. Generally not much about Kenshi 2 stuff yet, as there really isn't much to talk about. But when there is Kenshi 2 news, that's where it will be.

You could subscribe to the updates section on the forums, so you'd get a Steam notification when a new thread is posted. https://steamcommunity.com/app/233860/eventcomments/

Or follow them on Twitter or Facebook, where they also share the news when it's posted.
