When will the raids stop?
I just settled on fish island (i think thats what its called) down south. i set up a nice little base near the bridge. everything was going smooth until i got raided by a group of about 20 'fish people'

they were pretty easy to beat but as i was healing everyone , another 20 popped up and starting attacking. i survived that as well, then ANOTHER 20 came.

I barely survived the last fight before ANOTHER 20 came along with a group of like 10 Crabs.

WTF is going on. is there an event happening or did the game glitch? this cant be normal.

It is normal. You are lucky, enjoy the fun. You have discovered why people tell new(er) players do not create an outpost too early or before you can properly defend it.

You can kill the king which should slow or stop it.

This actually is quite normal there. Fishmen are very aggressive, and their patrols actively hunt down any outposts in the region. Fishman Island itself is 80% Fishmen patrol spawns, so virtually anything that spawns is a squad that will actively come assault your base if it sees it.

To stop it, you need to kill the King Gurgler, who lives on the island. Only then will the patrols relax, and it will become a far more tolerable place to live.

In the mean time, you can lower the world squad size so that they become manageable. Or lower the raid size.

You can also straight up disable or reduce the amount of wandering base attacks, if you so choose. It's also a setting in the options menu.

Ah! A 'welcome to Kenshi' moment.

Think many of us started a similar thread whenever we began. Nothing to be ashamed of, not at all. I gave up making walls with gates and just vacate my base (only buildings) when on exploration. Not for everyone's playthru, but is an option. So many options in this game.

If you are new to the game, you should never setup base near areas like that. Canibals, fish guys and fogmen will relentlessly attack any settlements in their area

i decided i have to kill the stupid fish king because i like my base... i managed to sneak to the south of the island where his tower is (i had to reload multiple times)... i run into the tower and reached the top only to get mugged by countless fish people.

it was at that moment i realized... im not going to win this war =( may the fish people burn in hell

final update: recruited 4 more people and built a (mini) drug trade empire. I hired 2 mercenary teams and went straight to the fish king.

i had a majority of my guys on crossbows. my plan was to lure the fish king outside and down the ramp where all my guys would shoot him to death while mercenary's slowed his guys down.

what actually ended up happening was my mercenary's attacked before the fish king was completely down the entrance ramp and in view of my xbowman. thats when i found out crossbowman can absolutely destroy your own squad. a lot of people died by friendly fire but i ended up getting the job done, i started healing everyone and looting. my pets were a safe distance away on the coast, too far to transfer stuff. so i double clicked on them to move them over..... and the game crashed

GG kenshi. GG

Or double the squad size because YOLO. Fighting giant fishmen armies was one of the funniest things I've done in Kenshi. The spawnrate is ridiculous and with boosted squad size it quickly turns into a hilarious situation where you can easily aggro like 150 enemies at once and the fight takes so long that 2-3 more squads show up as soon as you finish fighting the last horde. Same thing happens in Darkfinger with Cannibals.

To be fair, some of the easiest base locations are areas with Cannibals due to the fact Cannibal patrols will also attack anything else.

If you're still having some trouble doing the fight, since I presume you are gonna need to redo it on account of the game crashing, the entourage King Gurgler has may seem formidable but if you have a decently trained pack animal, like a Garru or Bull, they can be used to just AoE clear the lot. I'll never forget watching Rycon Roleplays go at King Gurgler with just his main character, his Shek companion, their Bonedog, and their Garru, Gary. Gary was the MvP that fight because it just PLOWED through all the Fishmen, giving the others the time they needed to take down King Gurgler.
