Getting caught too easily; stealing chance >100%
Basically, what the title says. My main character has thievery of almost 40. I can open a chest and, while in stealth (blue eye, no one around), peruse the contents. Every object will have a steal chance of OVER 100% - about 125-130%, often.

However - even in stealth, even when totally alone, even with that excellent steal rating, I get "caught" about half the time. The shopkeep downstairs in the bar will "catch" me stealing and send the entire town guard on my ass.

I'm having to resort to save scumming just to keep from being caught every other object I steal. If it's not in a chest, I'm perfectly fine, but if it's in a container, it's hit-or-miss.

Is this a glitch? Is the steal rate inaccurate? What should I do?

Ive noticed this too, i always assumed the <100% chance was, what it was. But even with 100% chance and no one around, ive seen my commiting a crime pop up with a 1 or 2. I assumed this was just a kind of reminder your being naughty.. Maybe its not working as intended after all.

The "committing a crime" indicator is normal. It's the number of seconds a person can effectively "catch you" by seeing you. Avoid apprehension until the timer goes away, boom, it never happened.

My problem is people "catching me" - "Hey, that's mine!" - when I'm hidden completely on an entirely different floor, with over 100% chance of stealing from a container.

I've noticed ive been "caught" like this aswell. No explanation, but the town guards to come running, even with me being blue, and a 77 stealth level.

The timer will appear regardless of if you're seen or not. This is an indicator to show that if you DO get seen, you're in for consequences. It doesn't mean they are meaning to already be happening.

Assassination skill. Stealth KOs. Don't really wanna ruin it for anyone on how to master the art of thievery but it does involve stealth KOs. Personally I have no issues with stealing an inventory full of ration packs. :steamhappy:

In fact, the game's pretty sketchy about informing you when you're about to do something that's going to get you in trouble. I've lost track of the number of times I've merely walked into a house and got mobbed for it, or done something innocuous like picked up an unconscious bounty and suddenly I'm under arrest.

It's bad enough with all of these holy nation ass-hats running around, demanding my women bear children and my men prostrate themselves. Did Origin finally reach Kenshi?

Can you stealth KO someone who is about to catch you?

Moreover, how do you counter getting narc'd on a container, and then the entire city guard comes piling in on your crew?

If you click a building you should see whether it's set to public or private.

By running really fast.

Nothing to spoil. Stealth, and assassination are my two highest stats, and I do love them much <3

No, you can only Stealth KO someone who doesn't see/know you're there.
You can't really "counter" it, other than either fighting or running away. Unfortunately i feel like stealth is bugged at the moment, in the sense that even if you do go blue, if you were seen and an ai is headed "to player", it ignores stealth completely. Even if you move around while blue, they will redirect their path... A bit annoying... I hope that changes in the future.

Sadly you can't stealth KO anyone when the eye is red in sneak mode. But that's why you have to do it before they notice you! I've waited around the corner in a weapon store and waited for the gaurd to come close enough before I *thumpd* him over the head with the stealth KO. xD Was very satisfying clearing out the whole store before running off with all the sabres and toppers. (even though I was hoping for Katanas :( )

I had an interesting situation where everything had a 105% stealing chance, and it was inside a dust bandit tower I had cleared. Somehow my thief had to stop three times for every item because somebody (the bandits corpses?) was catching her.
