How do you ACTUALLY play as a full hiver squad?
i've beaten the game with sheks and skeletons, killed cat-lon, pheonix, bugmaster and etc. i want to do it with hivers, but they suck A S S

For me it was a combination of a ton of sneaking in the early game to avoid threats (mostly because essentially everyone was missing a limb or two), and using the hazards to my advantage by trying to stick to acid regions where I had an advantage.

They are the fastest units in the game.

Oh good! i'll let them run away from their problems then?

*shrug* Rhadamant would beg to differ on that point. Ironman run using only Hivers and he did just fine.

It's less about "running away from your problems" and more about "playing it smart". They can't take as much as others, you need to hide or run from things that can and will kill you.

As the lead dev once said, Hivers are basically hard mode.

Skeletons suck. First thing I do is replace their legs with Scout limbs , they are freaking slow. A skelly's 70 Athletics is at freaking 21 mph speed when everyone else is at 25 to 28, slowing down the whole party.

The only things a hiver cannot change are head, stomach and chest, and his head and chest have armor which is better than the freaking skelly.

Skeletons even without mods, are pretty easy compared to hivers

Skeletons are great for an initial assault on something, but once they are broken they don't recover as well as organics do. You can only field repair them so much before you need to put them in a skeleton bed.

They start off strong because you can repair the damage and get them back into the fight quickly. Once you can't repair beyond a certain point though, their natural regen just wont be enough to keep up with an organic pawn.

I found an all skeleton squad to be painful to level too because once they would lose several fights, I would have to send another salvage crew in to carry off their broken husks to a skeleton bed. It's dumb stuff too like Skeleton #3 had his right arm hit so many times that you can repair it to -15, and it's going to take a week of game time to get back to 0 without a bed so he's useless now. Skeleton #2 gets a leg taken down to -20 w/ repairs and now you're whole skeleton crew limps along until you can find a bed or wait a year for him to regen to 0 naturally

I'm sure you know how to make money after playing so much, so make the money, get some decent armour for your first guy and then start beating up on bandits etc.

You'll lose a lot of limbs but that means you can replace them with better parts.

You can always spend more time in areas with weaker foes than you normally would too.

So my advice is "basically the same things you usually do, but spend more time in places than you usually would to grind levels / money".

I think the main problem might be getting the hiver shirts early on - I'm assuming a modless playthrough and not allowing yourself to hire a human/shek to buy shirts for you. I guess xbows could become very useful for later on?

Hivers are the easiest race to make OP with robotic limbs. Also crossbows.

you can actually make the hivers strong as hell

Just recruit hivers from anti-slavers to save you helluva of grinding time.
