Not enough engineering research

First, if you don't know where they are and don't want to know, then it's spoiler territory, don't read further.


So, I went to the "Post Ancient Workshop" and looted the place dry. Except for a small research bench, which is out of reach (my characters start dancing around if I ask them to loot it but they can't open it).
I had enough books to unlock every associated research except for "outpost type 4". I'm missing 2 books.

I've read non Holy trader can sometimes sell one, but it's apparently extremely rare, and I've not seen any outside of this workshop.

I'm pretty sure the place is empty, safe for this bench, but I'm not even sure there is anything inside. I went back there to be sure, and it was a long trip (I live on the south ridge between the 2 eastern hives of Vain).

I'm tempted to report it as a bug, but I want to be sure I'm not missing anything before.

They should be able to spawn in the ancient labs up north as well. Also in the Machinist's university if you're up for some stealing.

I don't think the traders can carry them any more. I seem to recall spotting that they were removed from their item lists a little while back.

I don't know where is the university. I planned to go to the north sometime, but it's a hell of a long trip.

The University is in the town of World's End, up in the top right corner.

I'm going for the ancient lab right now. Fun fact, I'm carrying a bounty since "suspicious lab", north of the flooded plains. This guy is in for a long trip around !

Just import your save, that will repopulate all towns/ruins with NPC's and Loot.

EggOxide actually started the mapping project, I just continued it after it got moved to the wiki.

Ok, after some nasty fights in there, I can confirm there are engineering research (and I found an AI core). Found 2 book, which is perfect, I guess the core will be handy later.

After spending several hours and over a dozen trips into and out of the Ainchient lab in the flood plains i can safely say they changed where AI cores are located. Simply put they arnt there anymore.

Youl have to go a bit further out of the way and get wet (HINT HINT) if you want ai cores now.

Engineering research is still in the same place it always was. Though for me there has been more than enough for every tech that needs them on one trip

The only part I didn't explore was the ruins behind cannibal territory. I went to the ancient lab (I found my core there) and the workshop for the engi research, but I don't have enough.
I'm planning a trip there, but if I don't find what I need, I'll have to do the import trick.

I'll keep it updated in case someone is interested.

before the last update i got 3 engeneering from the lost library in a locked chest and 2 AI cores from the lab... one was in a locked safe and one in one of the boxes on the second floor...maybe with .19 this changed

They're pretty much random when it comes to research artifacts. Each place has a min and max value for artifacts, and it will randomly spawn them so that the total value of all artifacts in that building is within that range.

There are a couple place that have guaranteed spawns of certain artifacts though, such as the Post-Ancient Workshop with Engineering Research. But most of the time, it's luck.

I haven't seen any engineering research at vendors for several updates, but ancient science books have still been spawning sparsely in Hiver shops. When you have a good loot run it's not too bad a return to trawl through the Hiver lands. You can usually make a little a over a quarter million that way.

I have no issue with ancient science book, I live in the Hives doorstep.
I haven't found anything in the north. I mean, nothing interesting. A few weapons, some book (like I need them) and that's it.

However, both there and in the ancient library in the Holy land, I found a map to a "place full of treasure", alongside the post ancient workshop map. This new area is out of the playable area, down south. I suppose this will be another place for AI core and perhaps engineering reasearch later on.

For now, I'm going to import and grind what I need that way.

Katanah, I don't say you are wrong, I believe you, but apparently it's not true anymore. I suspect they started moving the AI core and research around as they prepare to expand the map, at some point. It's kinda obvious as the map expand we will have to move further and further to have "everything".
