Map Icons?

What do the map icons mean? Paw prints that are sometimes red, sometimes white, little tents, etc?

tents, random bandit spawn camps
if red means they enemies to you.

I've tried mousing over them, but only the cities give me text when I do that. When you say "eventually" does that mean that it takes like 5 minutes or something then? lol
