Hive not selling those blue books anymore?

Been to 3-4 villages, only selling normal ones.

No. You need to find them in the ruins or steal it from the university in world's end. Be warned, they are very few ATM, for example my north and west ruins trip netted about 10-15blue books.
You can always import a save and explore anew.

I always thought the hive trader selling those was a placeholder. With the map extension coming soon, it's likely we'll have more of them available.

I belive there's some at World's End. The best place to find ancient books are at ancient labs.

I haven't seen a single trader selling them since the patch. And if you talk to the tech hunter, they say they are not going to sell the relics and whatnot. They will not even tell you where to go, because they want the stuff for themselves. The books (normal ones) are written by the tech hunter, so it's normal they sell it, the blue and red books are relics, and they use them (to write the normal book, mostly^^).

The normal book are basically the book you can find in a library written by some archeologist. Meanwhile, the blue and red ones are original book, written hundreds or thousands years ago, and are technically priceless for an archeologist.

The ruins in the mist then? Just got to Mongrel or something there, just waiting till night so I can nab some blueprints then I'm gonna look for these runins or labs or whatever. Where abouts are they? Should I just run around till one pops up?

There are not really a lot of ruins in the fog, though there aren't none. Most of the ruins are way up north, scattered all around. You pretty much can't go anywhere up there without finding one.

world ends does sometimes have them, around 8 - 12 books.
